BOTN - Needs to come home in a certain week in September to qualify for Winter Fuel Allowance

Under government rules you have to be in the U/K in a certain week in September, check the paperwork,
When I have been abroad, I have explained the system to people, which a lot don't know about.
Of course people don't divulge they are away, during the week to qualify.

I’m retiring now so not worried about working.
I’ve lived my life well and done everything I’ve wanted to but now is the time to put my feet up in the quiet parts of where we will be away from all the tourists etc.
BOTN, good luck pal, i agree with everything youve said about our once great country. It's now a pile of sh!te. If my kids said they were doing the same, i would finance them the best I could,.....utm.

Good luck on your new venture Botn, I'm sure you'll still have your input on the board even though you will rarely see the Millers playing live, and I've always looked at you as one of the more rational ones on here. UTM

Thanks for the response regarding the Visa that's helpful.
Since Covid, we have been lucky enough to be able to spend 10 weeks a year in Tenerife and have based ourselves at Villamaria complex near to La Caletta. We have looked around for a base. La Caleta is good as all the facilities you will need are available in nearbyAdeje town and you are away from the tourist areas and can obtain goods and services at local prices. We have also been looking at Alcala further west along the southern coast, the weather is slightly better here as it can be less cloudy, although the town is right on the coast it is traditionally Spanish without the mass number of tourists, we are still torn between the two places.
Did you consider other areas other than La Caleta for a base?

We chose La Caleta as we have been there a few times and always enjoyed it. We did look at a Villas all over the island but this one we’ve found ticks all the boxes with enough space for family visits.
We are hoping to be over by December at the latest.
If you are over next year give me a shout we can grab a beer. 👍🏻

Hmm let's hope the Spanish don't have the same attitude to foreigners that you have had while here or you are in for a rough ride. Or maybe you are a superior foreigner eh?
