I would not be surprised if history repeats itself as far as the current Labour government are concerned. Around 1974 when the Labour Party won the General Election the first thing that they did was to cave into the demands of the miners who were on strike and gave them the 35% increase they were demanding in their wages.
The other large unions demanded similar wage increases and inflation became rampant during that period with from memory it being over 20% per annum at one stage.
