As I’ve said before, I would have seen out his contract as I can’t see us getting a comparable replacement for the money we will get for him. Really hope I’m proved wrong but think it’s a poor decision to sell him.
Let’s face it - we were never going to get promotion last season as we were not good enough so without in my view three key players - Kipre - Mikey and Okay if he goes so how the hell are we supposed to compete? Still no striker FFS!
Shambolic!!! I have always said Patel will be judged before the season kicks off. I get the financial fair play blah blah but don’t expect the team to be weaker and still playing without a striker!
I disagree.
I like him as a player, but he's a high earner and he'll be 31 this coming season.
One of our biggest problems has not been selling our assets at the right time. He will leave for nothing next season anyway so why not make a couple of million and save on his wages for a year.
The key is recruitment. We must replace him with a comparable player in their early 20s with significant resale value. This is how we progress as a club, we have to play the market in a similar way as to how a club like Brentford have done it. And sometimes that means letting go of your better players when a good offer comes in.
Yes but we won’t replace him like for like and most likely get another Chalobah or Reach!
Two highest earners are Swift and Wallace. Swift usually is Mr Non Existent and Wallace due to Fellows being much better was accommodated as a striker which is laughable. Get these two off the payroll even if on loan but no one else will want them on their wages - bit like nobody wanted them apart from West Brom because of silly salaries!
So no Mikey - no Kipre and most likely no Okay which in my book are the three key players and we weren’t good enough last season!
Don’t know why we don’t sell Asante and Griffiths and make a profit on them as nothing more than very very average championship players at best!
Come on Patel as Birmingham are spending far more so are you any better than Lai? Jury completely out for me!
It’s not just the potential fee for an almost 31 year old Leicester, it’s getting £29k a week off the wage bill.
We need to stop getting so hung up about older players especially.
We had constant moaning about Phillips and the like being kept on after 30, I see no difference here.
We’ve got Moloumby returning and although not in Okay’s class he’s another body and can be half decent at our level.
Six months ago we were concerned we might not have a future under Lai. We now have a pragmatic businessman in charge and some still aren’t happy.
We have to work sitting FFP rules as well as sort out what has been a recruitment sh it show for almost a decade.
Some are symptomatic of today’s society, they want everything and they want it now.
We might need to regress a bit to be able to move forward in years to come.
I’d much rather see a young and energetic Albion side with an average age of 23-24 in two or three seasons , full of homegrown talent and lower league gems than the ageing, plodding side we’ve seen in recent years.
Mikey was a loan player. We always knew it was a short term thing and who knows we may still be able to do a deal for him.
Kipre and Yokuslu are good players, but very replaceable in my opinion.
I would be more concerned had we sold Palmer, I think he is a must keep for the coming season. Perhaps also Fellows I'd quite like to keep - but even with Fellows if an exceptional offer came in then I'd consider selling. Everyone else can come and go in my opinion, if its the right deal for the club.
Its not really about the outgoings that is important in this window. Its the incomings. We have to recruit quality, younger players who we can look to sell on in the future for a profit.
Molumby is crap and even the Irish fans booed him FFS. Phillips was over the hill too and only played half a season. Okay played almost every game and far better in my view than Mowatt. We won’t get like for like so we will be weakened!
Again Swift and Wallace are the big earners and nobody else wanted them apart from us due to the highest salaries in the championship. Get them off the pay role even with a loan as both add not a lot in my book. Swift is fabulous every fourth game and Wallace up front is an absolute joke and everyone knows it.
Pragmatic businessman? Well let’s judge him when we kick off and if we are weaker then don’t expect roses! Come on Patel didn’t ride in on a white horse - he saw an opportunity and a price for a club which was a knock down bargain!
Our worst player is Townsend at 31. Any takers for this pile of s hit? Also a lesser quality player in league 1 on a lesser salary should take his place!
Let’s hope Bartley at 33 who is also on an excellent wage is on a contract with payment structured towards games played as whilst decent - he only plays half a season!
