Prediction League thoughts/ideas for the 2024/2025 season?

Thank you everyone for providing suggestions/ideas. Looking though it all, there will be some additions to the PL that will help improve it overall but, the format will mainly remain as of last season.

To summarise here's what will be added. Please feel free to let me know if I've misunderstood anything so I can amend everything accordingly before the season starts. I will be posting the full T's and C's before the season starts in order to make everyone aware of these changes.

1. NO Millers games to be included in the 10 chosen fixtures on the day.

2. Point scoring to remain the same. x 1 point home win, x 2 points away win and x 3 points for a draw.

3. Only 5 draws are to be allowed per 10 fixtures.

4. 'Predict A Score'. This is to be increased from the previous score of 2 points to 5 points if there is only a single winner. Should there be multiple winners, the new score will be 3 points. Not forgetting any rollover weeks that will surely boost a few scores.

5. Playing a Joker. The 5pt bonus will remain for being the best predictor of the 10 fixtures. The Joker will be applied after everything so, if you are best predictor and/or get the score bonus points then the new format means those also get doubled.

6. The 'Predict A Score' will NOT include any Millers fixtures.

Let me know if I've missed anything or, any objections to what's been suggested.

Sounds good to me. I would have liked the predict a score to be the Millers game especially as we should be winning plenty this season and scoring more times than last season. Keep up the good work Brin. Only other thought is getting all right bonus. I got 9 with one game cancelled but rules said must be all 10. Change 10 to read all playable fixtures. I was proper miffed at the time but rules are rules.

That seems to be a sensible idea. It’s hard enough to get them all right in any event so, if matches are canceled, they should be excluded and the points awarded.

pip_y, we don't want to put a bad spec on the lads so I'm not including Millers games so unfortunately, I won't be using them in any fixture whatsoever. Trust you understand.

As for the fixture card was not always completed due to cancellations, yes that did happen more than once last season so............let's bring your idea so no matter how many games actually do get played, the bonus points will be paid out on who has the highest correct score from them. Good shout.

7. The full House Bonus to be renamed the House Bonus.
After a good suggestion, this coming season it will be adjusted to allow less than 10/10 to claim the House bonus points. The lowest that will be allowed though is 8/10 games, anything less than that will not be permitted as it just devalues everything.

It will run with 2 points less for each postponed game ie; if only 9 games are played with 1 postponed, the full house bonus would therefore be 18 points and 8 games played would be awarded with 16 points. The added bonus of 5 points will also still stand so, it could make someone's win very profitable indeed.

My apologies, if I've misread that. This may be difficult to allow as per these examples:

Week 1 player A gets all their predictions correct but for some quirk of fate only 7 games are completed. They are the highest scorer so they are awarded the extra 20 bonus points for getting 7/10.

Week 4 players B and C gets all their predictions correct but again there are cancellations and only 9 games are played. The two of them score 8/10 but they are beaten because someone scored 9/10. Will the two who scored 8/10 accept that although player (A) scored 7/10 they scoop up the extra 20 bonus points when they scored 8/10 and get nothing? That's why the original 10/10 was only ever won once by Grist as it is hard to achieve.

Mmmmmmmm?????? Thoughts please. Apologies for this pip_y but let's get this cleared up asap if we are to include your idea.

I will include it if the majority agree. What timescale shall we put on this?

Brin you're getting in a pickle The 20pt bonus was for getting 10/10 and didn't impact anything else. pip was just asking to make it also available if only 9 games are played, 8 games are played etc. I'd suggest making it available only if 8/10 or more of the posted fixtures are played.

Brin the examples you quote raise a valid point however the number of postponed games can vary but if someone gets 9 out of 9, 8 out of 8 etc should be rewarded. As the current bonus is 20 for 10 right perhaps it would be fairer to say 2 points less for each postponed game ie if only 9 games played with 1 postponed the full house bonus would therefore be 18.

I would go for that pip & Brin but no less than 8 games.
