I tend to go into most things in life expecting them to be s**t - weddings, gigs, parties........new football seasons. That way I am very rarely disappointed in life, and even sometimes very pleasantly surprised. Helps me keep my happy disposition through a contradictory approach of pessimism and optimism. You should try it!
Anyway, I went into last season feeling uncharacteristically optimistic and look what happened. So I am reverting to type and telling myself this season will be middling at best.
With that in mind - I reckon 4-1 the dons.
These opposing mindsets can be tricky to navigate!
Clarkson potentially out? Missed training having an x-ray today according to somebody on P&B.
No, I am optimistic that Jimmy will make us better this season, but just seen too many disappointments to not be aware that shyte couldl come our way. Particularly before Jimmy has us playing the way he wants, with his players, rather than the ones that he's inherited and have failed recently.
Just joshing.
I hear you, I’ve no real expectations for this season either, hopefully top six but I’m more keen to see a defined pattern of play that going forward we can bring our own youth into. Seen a lot of people, correctly, saying he has to be given time especially for the reasons you list above. NGL I was pretty surprised by the level of booing at half time for his first game at Pittodrie.
I predict Monday evening will be a doze of reality. St.Johnstone are far better than any of the dross we have played so far (Airdrie could knock the ball around better than us but were powderpuff up front).
I hope we win the match and if so it’s most likely by 1 goal in a low scoring game.
We definitely need better players in before the window shuts. Alan Hansen once said you win nothing with kids, RED_JOHN says you win nothing with dross.
St Johnstone have lost half their squad, easy win 0-3.
So move McGrath infield with likes of Besuijen/Duncan etc wide? The manager has today confirmed that Leighton Clarkson has sustained a shoulder injury that will keep him out for up to 8 weeks.
The influential midfielder had made an impressive start to the season but following a collision in last weekend’s match a fracture was found in his shoulder which will rule him out of action.
We wish Leighton a speedy recovery.
Or keep McGrath left? Bring someone else into the middle - Gueye? Maybe Milne. NOT Jensen.
I like McGrath infield which I think of as his position but equally think he’s more disciplined wide than the alternatives.
Sickener for Clarkson who had started well in that further forward role.
Of course ideally it’ll be the amazing new player we sign…
And speaking of discipline - that’s a long time the Duk situation has rumbled on now. Still bewildered by the laddie’s decision making.
With the Miovski situation and him not being played he’d have been a likely first pic for his favoured position and could have put himself even more in shop window.
