    Academy funding

To avoid academy funding being part of other threads.
This is how I interpret the C Grant podcast. Have you listened yet Mike, or are you just going to respond without either listening to it, or reading this, then rely on other’s word, and just paste previous answers ?
Mike is correct, we do not know the cost of the academy.
But, does it matter? As I think I understood the podcast, half is paid by the PL.
only 50% of our income can be used for team/player related expenses (transfers and wages). I would suggest that we use all of that 50% on wages and fees.
So, no money available for players is actually diverted to pay for the academy.
The academy appears to be funded by the directors. If you were to listen to the podcast, you would hear that we lost £1 million last season, funded by the directors
Personally I think the current board are playing a blinder.

Thanks for adding the rule about club revenue and limits on how it can be spent..

Think I have made the point about income and player funding before.

Only half the revenue can be spent on players...Also a surprise that Luke Offord was on a wage much much less than the other players and just wanted to move on for a different challenge in the close season and so these players are not just about wages but something new..What was also interesting was the possible move to a new ground in the centre of town where the big hole is now...HS2 abandonment spoiled any further discussion, although its still quite possible to come to just Crewe from Brum....

I have rescinded my suggested loss of interest in the club and its back on again...Up the reds!!

Yes 'Up the academy' was a bit tongue in cheek!

I would think that it should be for age 17/18 and older and forget the young kids as nobody knows how they will turn out ten years later. I was surprised how much money the club puts into the academy and he was just about to say how much that was when another question was asked. Basically saying even if he put another million into the club they cannot spend it on players wages, only the infrastructure and so in some way the club is stuck with them...Maybe its only marginal in costs to downgrade it to say Cat3..He was saying it was the gate money that dictates the expenditure on players wages but it was also suggested that some clubs our size are not playing by the rules..

The real problem for academy players and graduates are the injuries which take so long to heal up and why mid twenties plus is a far better age group to have and sign players..Cost dictates that of course..

What should bother the Board is the seemingly lack of quality in the academy under 21's etc..ie the future in the first team vs cost of it..

Mike your last sentence is the most important one concerning the future of our club. However the Board and all of the posters on here completely ignore this problem. Unless there is a natural progress from the under 18s to the under 21s and on to the 1st team the system does not work.

Plus, of course, as has been pointed out before, a lot of the U21s were playing for the first team and the 18s were playing for the U21s etc due to injuries in the first team

And yet more convenient excuses. Do you have a library of them? BE careful is it too many posts or are your excuses becoming repetitive
