First gig at city Hall, and in fact ever, was Ultravox on their brilliant Rage in Eden tour. Unfortunately the gig didn't start till 10.15ish so had to leave to get the old 69 bus. Mum complained (was only 15 at the time! ) and the next day got complimentary ticket(amongst loads of empty seats) to see Sad Cafe! Sadly I went (apols to any Cafe fans on here! )

A good introduction to the ****ing unreliability of gig start times!

Oddly enough my first visit I didn't even get in , Bob Dylan ,I went on the night hoping to get a ticket but it was sold out . Also there was some kind of protest going on " Dylan Is A Judas " type thing, apparently he had gone " Electric" upsetting his followers to a very high level

Something not quite right there, Lincs.

If you tried to get tickets for the Dylan concert in Sheffield when the Judas protest was taking place that would have been May 1966 but he apparently performed at the Gaumont that year. He did appear at Sheffield City Hall in April 1965 but that was more than a year before he started doing the second half of the show as an electric guitar performance backed by the Hawks that gave rise to the "Judas" accusations.

This is all from Google. (I quite liked early Dylan but I'm not a fanatic with tour schedules and set lists etc!) The 1966 tour does interest me, though, since I attended one of the "Judas" concerts - at the Royal Albert Hall on May 26.

You could be quite right there CT. We used to frequent both venues and Googles recall is obviously better than mine . Without Google I would have put my life on the fact that I had seen him at The City Hall
