To me it seems obvious that both Crowley and Jones have been offered new contracts, but neither have signed them. That suggests their holding out for better contracts or a transfer, agents have a lot of influence in these situations don't be surprised if both move on. The thing is does the club cash in on a transfer fee now or reject them only to get nothing for both players at the end of the season. That's what happened with Rodrigues and Wootten and that still irks me.
Not sure how anyone can genuinely argue that all players sold have been directly replaced when it's a pretty unanimous supporter view that we're at least 1 striker, 1 RWB and ideally 1 LWB short of having a good enough starting 11 + strong competition/cover. Add to that the GK situation if God forbid Bass gets an injury, that's a debate for another day.
The very fact that we're short as it is and potentially losing Crowley too means that at some point we've neglected to replace players we've lost - Still time in the window but our situation only seems to be getting worse not better, let's hope it takes a positive turn soon.
You don’t sell your prime assets to direct rivals and get promoted. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a moron.
I'd rather follow the club as a fan than a bean counter. I think players playing out their contracts if they wish is part of the game. RR kept going right to the end, got that winning finale and then managed his career to become a championship player.
A club cannot just always treat its players as commodities to buy and sell, we'd get a bad reputation and other players wouldn't want to sign or stay with us. And the 'selling club' label wouldn't sit well with us, there's got to be a more nuanced approach.
FWIW, I think we've let too much go already for this season. DC and JJ have to stay to make sure a) we get enough points b) the product on the pitch is worth watching. If that means at least one of them plays to see out their contract so be it.
On the 'everyone has their price' outlook, I'd hope the club would set what they got for Macca as a minimum.
Selling Crowley to MK Dons would be a mistake unless they’re offering silly money - as you say, you don’t strengthen a rival if you’re aiming to get promoted. It’s clear that SM has built the team around Crowley - unless there’s a proven like-for-like replacement, it would be a very risky move at this stage.
We’re obviously doing something right when other teams are looking to sign our players, but that does bring fresh challenges - the kind we’ve never really had to face at Notts before.
