    Schar's sending off

I've listened to all the pundits and fan channels debate the point.

The consensus is that is was 'soft, but Diaz played Schar like a fiddle and got him sent off'.

I seems to be a case that literally no one knows the rules of the game. The rules are that when the whistle has blown play has to stop. If a player commits a professional foul after the whistle it a straight red card. Diaz's foul on Schar was deliberate and Pawson get it completely wrong.

I'd upload screen shots but the image uploader is just URL/web images now so not possible. I've added the highlights below so you can walk through it with my break down.

https://hofoo22.fooroomtyv.com/embed/FLQummLiJ3Pzk - Here are the extended highlights with match clock.

    - 26mins 38 seconds - Bruno is fouled on the half way line.
The ball runs back to the defensive right. Diaz in on the half way line & sprints toward Schar who is comfortably in control of the situation.

26mins 41 seconds - Referee blows for the found on Bruno. Diaz is more than 5 meters from Schar who has control of the Ball.

*** Everything from this point on is considered 'out of play, players are to stop and physical contact is a foul off the ball, a professional foul, penalty - red card' ***

26mins 42 seconds - Diaz stride shortens at the sound of the whistle he then picks up pace again & sprints toward Schar

26 44 seconds - Diaz shoulder charges Schar in the back, smashing him to the ground. This is an immediate red card for a professional foul. You can see both Diaz's feet leave the ground as he intentionally barges Schar.

Pawson wasn't even looking at the ball, Schar or Diaz smashing him to the ground.

Everything after that is irrelevant. Schar was foul, Pawson sent off Schar.

Pawson shouldn't be allowed to referee under 8s matches.

    Convince me I'm wrong!?!

I thought both players put their heads together, not just Schar to Diaz.

It was Diaz’s simulation that put the spotlight on Schar, refs need to get wise to it, and if a player over reacts like that to get a fellow professional sent off, then they need to be punished.

Diaz should have went though, he could have seriously injured Schar, both feet off the ground, elbow up, no intention of getting a ball, just to tough up our player.

I’d have been all for Schar going full Joey Barton there but maybe I don’t have the correct temperament to be a footballer.

On another note: anyone see that guy holding another player down by his neck!!! How was that not a sending off?

Diaz is a **** for starters and should've been sent off for the barge into Schar and also the theatrical fall after Schar put his head towards him, making a double yellow and a red to follow.
Having said that, I have little sympathy with Schar for simply offering his head towards Diaz because it's asking for trouble and he should know better than to offer a ****house like Diaz the chance to play act.

VAR should've offered up a yellow for Schar to the ref, in a fashion, if you get me, but it seems to me that it's a case of it's Newcastle, so don't fret.

I hope Schar gets his card downgraded to a yellow.
We still won so Pawson's dislike for us didn't get full traction.

A red card was extremely harsh, especially given their player committed at least two yellow card offences i.e. the shoulder barge, going head to head (both of them did it) and the embarrassing play acting.

It’s worth noting that if the situation were the other way around we’d be saying well done to Schär for making him take the bait. We’re fickle as fans and see things through black and white tinted glasses. Schär is old enough and should be wise enough to not put himself in that position. It won’t be overturned.

If we appeal and the decision stays, will the ban be extended +1 game?

That’s only if the FA deem it to be a frivolous appeal. I doubt it would be viewed as such so it’s worth appealing.

Ston targetted Schar, Gordon and Bruno with foul play up until the sending off. The referee didn’t have the competency or will to do anything about it.

    Few points.

By the letter of the law, it was a red but only just because it was such a slight movement.

If it was a red for Schar, it was a red for Diaz as he did the same but, as pointed out, the conccious/unconscious bias of anti-Newcastle and/or the 'we won't be swayed by a big crowd' factors came into play.

I absolutely disagree that we'd all be congratulating one of our players for doing the same. From a personal point of view, I hate it when our players do it. If that had been Gordon, I'd have been calling it out, too. In the great pantheon of what's wrong with football, this sort of thing is near the top of the list, for me.

Ironically, it probably worked in our favour as it woke the crowd up and the players fed off that.

I guess you have a point regarding boot on t'other foot but even still it would have left a bad taste in the mouth.

Seeing your player check his stride on hearing the whistle blow, then speed up and smash an opponent in the back, total blindside is not something I applaud regardless of who's team the perp is on.

The gamesmanship of the head to head fair enough, Schar should know better but the actions preceding the non-headbutt are serious dangerous play and a professional foul. As mentioned it could have injured Schar considerably.

Had Schar not got up. What do you think Paw-clown would have done. At the time of the incident he was interacting with Bruno who had just been cropped for a really bad yellow card tackle, which once again, the referee didn't give anything for.

Paw-clown needs to be reffing the under 11 regional subbuteo competition. He should be no where near professional football.

He didn't have control of the game at all from kick off. You're right about targetting players.

Blew my mind when we'd watched then kick us up hill and down dale for the first 10 mins. When the clown booked Hall for a first tackle I knew we were in for a long afternoon.

Shocking state of refereeing and it will be one of the key factors again to how we progress this season.

We all know the 'usual suspects' either the fraud 6 panderers or the NUFC haters. The Under cover Red Filth supports who gave bad decisions against us, Chelsea & those in and around the Filth in the league whilst reffing our matches.

So I'm sure we'll be back again on 'Ref Watch' as more and more incompetent (at best), intentionally wrong (at worst) decisions are given against us!
