A more exact and balanced view:

    In part:

A statement from Brown's partner described him as a 'very calm, gentle and quiet' man who has never raised his voice or showed signs of violence within the relationship.

Mr Hector said it would be difficult for Brown to do community work as he played professional football, including games away from home. He said the defendant already gave his time helping to coach young people and engaging in community activity.

District Judge Stuart Smith said: "This incident is clearly out of character as you are usually kind, gentle and laid-back. No doubt alcohol played a significant part contributing to your behaviour on this day."

But he said Brown's reaction to the argument was excessive and his violence left the woman with red marks across the side of her face.

"This will be a blemish on your previous good character," he added. "As a professional footballer you are a role model to many thousands of young people with a great influence on their decisions and lives.

So not a nice incident - but in the words of one famous personality " He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her."

Let's give the boy a chance eh. Expect him to be involved in the Notts Foundation, send him back if he proves to be a wolf in sheep's clothing.

    Balanced.

Mapperley Magpie has never done anything wrong in his life and as such this signing is the worst ever and we all need to cast stones at Montague.

Is it the calibre of player or the calibre of man you're complaining about though?

Lee Hughes (whose goals I celebrated) cost people their lives and absconded the scene because he was no doubt under the influence.

Jevani Brown hasn't done anything anywhere near as damaging to that woman's life and although repugnant who knows how all that unfolded.

This goes into details - I'm certainly not gonna throw the book at him nor will I idolise him. People make mistakes and terrible errors of judgement - as a fan I've celebrated goals by someone who committed something far more questionable so I don't really have a high horse to sit on.

True, I mean it's not like it's still 2016, is it?

Glad that MapperleyPies hysterics have beeb seen for what they are by a large majority of level headed posters.

When you dig deeper into the ‘incident’ there seems to be a lot more to it.

Mapperley, I respect your reaction to this.

How did you react to the signing of Lee Hughes? How did it make you feel when he played for us and scored? How do you feel about Hughes now, after his time with us?

This is not an attempt to dig you out. I won’t give you any ‘whatabouterry’ or call you names or any of that nonsense.

I am genuinely interested in people’s responses and reactions to Hughes (hence why I started the Football and Morality thread).

Yep, I think RM has stepped up on this one compared to last pre season when signing a striker that wasn’t even fit when signing on the dotted line 🙂
