I can speak from experience how dementia can ruin peoples lives as my dad has it,he’s a shadow of his former self and on section 3 of the mental health act,a straight laced man all through his life he’s now taken up naturism and will walk around the hospital naked until a member of staff sees him, like BT says about Balan he’s as mad as a box of frogs now,my mum refuses to see him because she can’t bare to see him the way that he is,his memory got worst over the course of around two years,he doesn’t recognise me,my sisters or my mum but strangely reconised my pet c0ckatoo up to about six months ago but even that’s gone now,he attacked my sister with a knife because he thought that she was stealing from him and the list goes on,sometimes it’s seem as s humorous disease what with the memory loss but it goes much deeper than thst

My thoughts are with Balan and more importantly his family

He long ago identified as a Jew and lives on a kibbutz in Israel. I have had many private messages with him over the years and just before Covid struck we were making plans for me to visit him on his own patch. Sadly now that won't happen, but I can happily report his fellow kibbutzim's are taking good care of him.

That’s interesting BT,is he originally from the Burnley area? I just wondered how he came to post on a Burnley forum,he’s obviously a popular poster

He comes from Rishton which is near my birth town of Accrington. He was very passionate about football, especially Burnley FC when they were sweeping all before them in the late 1950's and 60's.

He was coaching football to kids in Israel and was fluent in 5 different languages. I would have loved to have met him in his heyday but seemingly those days are sadly gone.

My dad needs ever more powerful drugs to ease his condition but the more powerful the drug the more possibility that they will bring on a stroke or heart attack so what do you do,my dad is three years into his dementia now so alf we can do is wait for the inevitable,I feel for my mum more than anyone as she’s a broken woman
