I agree with most you've put here, especially the bit about Reece James being a class player, and him and Powell down our left side seem to have hit it off straight away. We missed Kelly yesterday big time as he is a steadying influence in midfield, and I personally wouldn't have taken Nombe off as I thought he was the one most likely to make something happen up front. A draw was a very fair result and both teams could have won it, but we have to start moving the ball quicker when a pass is on as I thought yesterday that we too often delayed a pass when it was obviously on, but still lots to work on for our management team. UTM
I am still determined to give it 10 games before making definitive judgements but we are a very strange team at the moment. The same patterns and issues every game. We have periods of total dominance where the opposition are hanging on for their lives, with box entry after box entry coupled with the issue of always looking like we have a goal or two to give away. I think a lot of disappointment comes from all the sales talk from Evans from April to August. He has said some pretty audacious things. He has cobbled together a team of League 1 All Stars and people expected more thus far. I have no idea how this season will pan out to be honest.
The wake up comment was a bit strong. No I want us to win of course I do, but i won't wear rose tinted glasses when there are clearly issues within the team and the way the club is being run. We played well against Huddersfield but the fact still stands it took a last minute wonder strike to beat ten men. That is the only league game we have won.
Positives, we create a lot of chances and that is something to build on. We have a core group of very good L1 players in kelly, Odoffin, Tiehi, James, Powell, Humphries and Wilks we also have other players that are capable if they step up JCH, Nombe, raggett and rafferty, so yes there are positives. ignoring the issues and hoping it all works out doesn't seem sensible to me, we should be able to discuss what we see and comment on it.
Hopefully the results will come and when we have played the 10 games that people mention we will know more, the next 4 games are the league favourites, two teams in the bottom 3 and a mid-table team. At the moment our 1 point a game if it continues for the whole season would have put us 20th for the last two seasons, 19th in 21/22 and relegated in 20/21, so based on the first 6 games things have to improve (I think they will) or we will be in a relegation battle.
To finish on a positive we are unbeaten in three games
The Kelly signing is a great signing if it is blended with many other signings varying in age, styles, experiences etc.. Burton's number 9 is Danilo Orsi who scored 23 goals in Crawley's League 2 promotion campaign last season. He signed a 3 year deal with Burton who paid a fee for him. I remember a bit of fuss about him when the season ended. Is he the type of player we should have been investing in instead of the old stalwarts of League 1 like JCH?

Must have been at a different game to some.
Burton were clinging on, especially in the run up to half time and immediately after our second goal.
They had a select few chances and took them.
We created plenty and took virtually nothing.
Wilks is the most influential chance creator I've seen in ages. A type of player we've missed for a long time. They backed off and backed off and that lead to one of the goals.
The defense is shocking though. For their leveler we backed away, the entire back line went massively deep lead by McCart who really dropped off dragging the back line with him.
Phillips is still a number 2 based on that performance. Didn't see much commanding of the back. Then again Im not particularly convinced on Dawson.
We look ok for width and the football was a bit more dynamic than the last few have been - certainly less hoof ball.
I'm not sure JCH is the player we thought he was. Good goal, and he came close twice but he's lost his pace. If he clicks he will bag 15 for us I'm sure. I don't think he's the issue.
Nombe? Effort, running, got about but spent more time running towards that left or right hand side as opposed to central and it was clear him and Wilks were making up for JCH lack of mobility.
Hugill. No comment. He's still as poor as ever and I'd have had Eaves on today instead.
I actually think we need to swap out the front setup. Nombe, Hugill and JCH are all scorers of the past but right now they can't from a collective front and are all being wasteful.
When it clicks, and I believe it will, we will hammer teams.
Usual trolls on here again slagging of the players and manager without due cause. Just boring and actually demonstrating you are all thick as ****.
Played well yesterday, fine lines......Burton could have gone home with a right thumping yesterday.
JCH was immense yesterday. He will score at least 20 if he plays like that for the rest of the season. Wilks is also a very classy player at this level. Burton had nothing to stop him in that second half. Nombe - come on lad, fantastic effort.....but you need to calm yourself in front of goal.
Both Full Backs - excellent. First time in years we have had this level of quality.
Final word on Humphries - Far too good at this level. If we could get him to sign a longer deal I would be amazed.
For next week:
- Raggett back in for McCart. Harsh on McCart but we need a threat at attacking corners and I also think Raggett will make us more dominant as a defensive unit.
- Missed Kelly yesterday. Oddofin was poor. He isnt a midfielder simple as that. Hes a good defender - very good for this level but we can't play him and CT in the midfield.
