Despite his work rate though, Cosgrove is still garbage apparently lol. Not even fit to lace Adie Marsh's boots. 😄
But anyway, maybe that performance today, was the Barnsley way ?.

It was poor viewing in the first half with the goal being the only highlight and probably the only shot we had in that 1st half. It would be fair to say that the midweek game in Manchester took its toll cos we looked low on confidence and a bit lethargic.

Second half we did better with some good contributions from various players. Having conceded the late equaliser, we showed tremendous character to go and get a winner which was pleasing and from a confidence point of view, very important. Great to see Humphrys get off the mark in a Barnsley shirt. He isn't quite fit due to having no pre season but he looks a big strong powerful lad with some ability.

Burton pleasantly surprised me with their style of play and credit to them. They tried to play passing football, not something you'd associate with them in recent years it has to be said. A couple of their players caught my eye too.

    Point is this:
    We won - that’s great.
We are 3rd in the division - that’s good at this stage of the season.
But is anyone seeing anything right now that convinces them that we will be top 2 or even in the top 6 by the end of the season?
    Because I’m not.

Yes it’s only the start of the season - but at best we look a mid table team.
    The football just isn’t there.
The connection between the players isn’t there.

    To add to that:
On recent showings the two up front - Dunn and Humphrys are not as good as Cole and McAtee.

Although many were shouting for experience players to be brought in - that hasn’t worked.
I can see (if it’s possible to do so) either Lopata or Shepherd being recalled as cover for the centre backs.

We're 7 games in and have faced different types of opposition in each encounter. Each game has required a different approach to what tactics and players Clarke has decided to play in order to win the game.

It's too early to judge because not only have we had to change the team in order to try and win games, we've also had to make changes due to injuries.

Nudger always preaches that people don't listen to the club. Unfortunately he must not listen to Clarke because this head coach is as honest as the day is long and keeps telling in his interviews that it is a squad game. He also takes accountability when he got things wrong like at the Stevenage and Mansfield games.

It's foolish to judge what we're capable of after 7 league games. However, that's the modern day mentality in football. How can you possibly ascertain that Dunn and Humphrys are as good as Cole and McAtee when Dunn has played 3 games and Humphrys has made 2 substitute appearances?

How can you say bringing in experience hasn't worked? Barry Cotter has improved due to sound advice from Marc Roberts telling Cotter to deliver the ball in early which has resulted in a better end product. De gevigney has improved this season and looks to have found consistency from playing alongside Roberts. Hourihane is making good progress and being innovative in terms of coaching the players according to Clarke. Luca has clearly been pushed on and coached into becoming the all round midfielder. Who better to advise and help than Conor Hourihane? Had he not been brought in as player/player coach then we'd be weaker, no doubt about it!

Correct Pass. Far too early to make judgements about players or final league position.

We haven't played any of the "big boys" yet who could be likely to be pushing for automatic promotion and have played a game more than most but 13 points have been gained from a variety of performances. A good points return early on is what we wanted and is what we have achieved.

Good post with sensible relevant comments and I might add that it is obvious we still have problems at the back calling for loan players to return to solve any issues is also a nonsense , these players have already struggled here and thats why they are out on loan, but they are not even regular starters at their loan clubs which speaks volumes for their current form and there is no way that they would get anywhere near the team or improve anything. The way I see it is our main problem is the left wing back/full back position, we need a left footer who could nail down that position , hopefully with coaching Gent might do the job or another alternative is having a fit Pines to resume in the centre thus allowing Earle to shuffle across to the left wing back spot , I am not sure if we have any potential coming through the ranks who might be worth a go but I certainly do not see Okeefe as the answer .

    Bringing in experience.
Neither Roberts or Hourihane are good enough.
But don’t say I didn’t warn about bringing in players that are past it.

Obviously when saying ‘listen to the club’ I’m not referring to the tea lady, head coach, kit man or stewards in the car park.
    I’m referring to the DIRECTORS.
That is to say those that plot the DIRECTION of the club.

Players like Cotter and Mael have improved because of Roberts ???
    Really ???
Nowt to do with the input of DC then ???

As said previously - ON RECENT SHOWINGS - Dunn and Humphrys are not as good as Cole and McAtee.
    I’ll stick to that.

There are vast improvements from last seasons garbage - which brings me on to think there are similarities between DC and Keir Starmer.
Although things look terrible right now we should give these two time - as they are clearing up the atrocious mess left over from the previous administration.

People will always get their knickers in a twist until they accept that last seasons achievements were amazing considering that the manager was thrown under the bus by being given a weaker squad than Duff had before , Clarke has been dealt a better hand and hopefully he will benefit from that , we all want him to do well but I feel defensively despite the experience which Roberts has brought we are still short and so far our new HC has had to constantly tinker with the back to try and solve the problem, bringing back inexperienced failed players will not solve anything in fact the opposite !!!
