You’d hope we would get something from the game - surely not another season without an away win? We have good players, just need a team to match

MillersMad Match Thread - Cambridge v The Millers

It's matchday! And today sees us roll up at the Cledara Abbey Stadium, home of Cambridge United.

Manager: Garry Monk, appointed: March 2024.
Top Scorer: Shayne Lavery (currently injured), 2 goals.
    League Position: 24th.
Player to watch: They have injuries but Brandon Njoku, 19y/o striker will be a goal threat for the U's.

Rock bottom Cambridge are going through a difficult patch. With no wins at all this season (in any competition) things seem to be turning sour for the former Wednesday incumbent, Garry Monk. A cursory glance at their fans forum suggests most natives at the Abbey have little faith in Monk turning things around and a fair % want him gone.

So things seem to be getting toxic and with all due respect to Cambridge, this HAS to be our best chance to finally register a well overdue away win against a team who are clearly low in confidence. Can we take advantage?

    U's home form…

    Cambridge 0-2 Lincoln (L1)
    Cambridge 1-2 Charlton (EFL Trophy)
    Cambridge 4-4 Blackpool (L1)
    Cambridge 0-1 Crawley (L1)
    Cambridge 1-2 QPR (EFL Cup)

As far as the Millers are concerned, this isn't a must win game but it kinda feels like one. If we don't get a result tonight, or at the very least a good performance, then when will we get one? I honestly don't think we'll be in the relegation mix come the end of the season, but we have to start picking up wins. One win out of 8 league games doesn't seem acceptable from this squad of players so let's hope we actually turn up tonight and come away with a positive result.

I’m not expecting a classic, but try to enjoy the game everyone!

The pressure is growing on the players and the management, this will be an interesting game and one we should win, however football isn't like that. We need to get at them from the off, press as a unit and high up the pitch, ideally with width. I hope we put in a good performance and get the result, we need it and the players need it as well. If hugill plays I hope he does well, as much as I don't think he should be here as long as he wears a Rotherham shirt i want him to do well. So come on millers lets kick start our season and get those 3 points

    Yes a great summary
Hope you don’t mind me adding to it…..
Their winless run stretches back 16 matches into last season so that might be why some of their fans appear to want immediate change

It’s a week before the Cambridge University students return so the attendance might be down as I’m sure all those extremely clever young people would have turned up to see us.

    Great write up,

Definitely is a must win, I know you’re trying to look on the bright side and be optimistic but if we are not licking these we will be in a relegation battle.

I know we are never guaranteed a win, but anything else will see Cambridge doubling there entire points tally so far this season against us.

    Away drought ends tonight….

Sorry to disappoint you mate but we’ve decided to go tonight. BOTN is moving next week so one last away game together. What could go wrong. 😑

Monk didn't improve their fortunes last term but going by transfers they're in a similar situation to us with incoming players being free and loans, and a lot got shipped out (not quite as dramatic as our numbers, mind). Feels like one of those games where if either manager loses he's going to be up against the fans.
