Strange isn't it. I'm starting to think DC is putting too much emphasis on respecting our opposition rather than focussing on our strengths in some of the games that I've seen. Even when we go 1 up and start a game in the ascendancy, we fall back into defensive mode despite our tendency to commit far too many unforced errors and let the opposition back into the game

It was clear to see that when he went to 4 at the back we had more going forward.
Unfortunately Mael is better going forward than he is defensively! He should have had a penalty as well.
Humphrys scored a great goal and is a threat unlike Cosgrove who is a passenger most games.
Connell has been poor most games. But the overriding factor is our inability to defend!!! Their 2nd goal we had 3 attempts to get it away Mael turned too easy AGAIN, he needs benching.

Set up with four centre backs starting and we are at home in league one, and so to Oakwell the gift that keeps on giving to away sides. Fortress out of this world.

Plenty of spirit but the quality of football on display is absolutely dreadful !

    2nd Half.

    Good grief Charlie Brown.
We had a HC that didn’t understand the tempo and style.
Now we have a HC that doesn’t understand the formation.

If you play wingers - shouldn’t they actually be wingers ?!?!?!
    (Which we ain’t got).
Can someone explain what Cotters position was during this game ???
Look where he was for their 1st goal.

So we change things and go the old fashioned 442 - and suddenly we look better.
That’s because DC understands the old ways of 442.
    He doesn’t understand 343 or 352.

    Bring on Thalhammer.
Or someone similar who understands how the club wants to play.

    Jury has returned.
    Clock is ticking for Clarke.
I’m expecting him to be gone before Christmas.

I know there’s the flow of the game and 2 teams playing but I don’t get why it takes the opposition scoring to jolt us into life. Stockport Saturday we scored early and sat back until they scored. Tonight, we had a similarly good first 10 minutes, albeit without a goal, and then went so poor until they scored.

No matter what personnel or structure we play, our defensive play is so poor.

Our central midfielders have started preferring to pass backwards rather than in to any forwards. I’d be giving Benson a go personally. I know he’s not strong in the tackle but he picks up the ball and looks forward. Keep him injury free I still believe he’s one of our best players.

Another quick turnaround to Huddersfailed on Saturday now. They’re on an awful run so would be nice to drive another nail in the coffin.

I’ve listened to a bit of the after match interview with DC.
I couldn’t listen to it all because it’s so depressing.

He says he doesn’t know his best formation.
Yep - we can all see that.

But can I just say - when you play wing backs - as we do - their main responsibility is in defence - with the secondary objective of getting forward.
Wing backs should not be anchored to the half way line.
Players stuck wide on the wing that don’t often get back to defend are called WINGERS.
    They are NOT wing backs.

If we played with wingers - we would employ wingers.
    But we don’t.
    We employ wing backs.
There is a big difference between the two.
And it was more than evident against Wycombe.

This point in itself shows that Darrell Clarke just does not understand the preferred formation of the club ie 343 or 352.
Simple instructions to players are not there.
As a result we have a talented bunch of players, especially at this level, that look completely lost in what their role is.

    Two more games.
If it doesn’t improve by then - DC needs to go.
We can NOT hang around hoping for things to improve like we did last season.

Only game I been entertained this season so far is Accy away. Credit for coming back twice, but sloppy, very sloppy.
Team that finished tonight should start at Town

Loads of space in EL4, never known it as empty round us for a league match recently
