I disagree. I think the lockdowns and paying people to stay at home will not be repeated.

They got away with it, they will get away with it again but there won't be furlough to the same extent.

In my opinion there will never be another lockdown the next time a virus hits the U.K. Too many people are realising that there is no cure to date for a virus which has to run its course with people eventually building up their immunity to it.
No vaccine has been discovered to prevent the common cold which is another virus.

It won't even be up to the UK govt anyway, it will be up to the world health organisation.....who are in the grip of the Chinese govt.....they do lockdowns like dabs do dressy up.

Always a sucker for a good conspiracy theory me! I've read that a vaccine for the common cold is very achievable and some sources have suggested it has already been found. But! The pharmaceutical industry in general make multi billions each year from cold remedies of all sorts, monies which would dwarf the sums to be made from discovering and making a vaccine. So............!

My mother died in February 2003 suffering from MND.
Prior to her death she was told by the MND nurse who visited her at home that the big drug companies were not interested in finding a cure for MND because not enough people die from MND.
The big drug companies were only interested in finding a cure for heart disease and cancer because a lot more people die from these conditions resulting in the big drug companies making a lot of money.
Many high profile people from as far back as Don Revie have died suffering from MND with no cure having subsequently been discovered.

To my surprise, I find that I agree with your view. I don't think our government would apply lockdowns and furloughs as a way to save the NHS. They might well follow an instruction from world health organisation. If Boris was in charge we would do our own thing but Starmer would follow any instruction from EU or WHO.
