Final thoughts before bed..
This is my “Wednesday match”. .. it hurts.
But to be fair, I can take being second best. We were.
That performance from us, moving the ball out of our half wasn’t even Sunday leaue standard..
I cannot see this season getting any better from today.
Credit Slonina. The only player to come out with credit from today. Great punches, catches and saves.
Rest 1 from 10.
Embarrassing.
Awful performance, awful tactics and some used to grumble about Collins !! Kane showed exactly what we had in him and now exactly what we are missing , a footballer who can pass the ball and get the players up the pitch , we were clueless , no football and no desire !!! a big well done to our clueless owners who slowly but surely are taking us down to a level we have not been to for donkeys years , mark my words while ever this lot are running our club we will sink lower and lower .
If I'm Head Of Recruitment at Oakwell what I'm looking for is to build combinations within a team , I'm looking for balance and structure .
Those to me are the basic rules which you work within .
In my opinion what's happening is that the players are recruited with the expectation that the coaching staff can mould a team from a scattergun approach to recruitment .
Let's start at the back , Roberts and Pines are virtually the same player , in my opinion you can play with one or the other but not both .
In midfield it's the same , you either play Connell or Craig but not both .
Up top is a real minefield , there isn't a partnership to be seen amongst the forwards we have no matter what combination is out on the field .
This really is 11 individuals trying to play a team game in a very competitive league .
Whilst we call out what seems to be a situation where our players are incapable of passing a ball that doesn't follow with what it takes to be good enough to make it professionally .
Everyone of these players is capable of passing a ball , having a reasonable touch and the ability to find space , they wouldn't have made it this far in their careers if they didn't possess these attributes .
However because the balance and structure isn't right it's making these players look a lot worse than they are .
I'm not suggesting these players are nailed on top four by any means but more that the product we are watching should be better even if the results won't always be what we'd like .
It's possible to build a team at this level on the budget we have and challenge the top 6 , it really is .
But it's not if the basics of recruitment to create a competitive team aren't followed .
To be fair I'm just grateful we can sign anybody wi these clowns at the helm. We were waiting all summer and nowt were happening. KD and Humphrys rushed through on deadline day at the 11th hour. The season already underway, Humphrys not fit, it about sums us up.
We have no team ethic. It's individuals jogging round a pitch. That yesterday was utter garbage. I listened to Clarke and Connell on Radio Sheffield and they were honest about it at least. Clarke saying that the last 3 weeks have been shyte. I know it's stating the obvious but at least it's honest and not trying to pull wool over anybodies eyes unlike the owners who systematically bullshyte the Barnsley public.
We can regroup in this international break and get the lads back on track hopefully. Since Old Trafford things have gone to pieces. We have a shyte head if recruitment so we are stuck with this squad until January. I suggest Clarke and his coaches crack on best they can
Why the bloody hell isn't Hourihane playing more , I don't expect three games a week out of him , I don't expect much more than 60 minutes when he does but I've expected to see him way more than we have out there .
He's 33 not bloody 43 and played 100 games for Derby County in the last two years .
Let's park the playing side and say his coaching credentials got him back here , based on what exactly ?
Ridiculous to bring him back with no apparent value in him on the field which I don't buy for one minute .
Once again there's no sense on display that I can see .
Clarke has played the, "I tell it straight" card several times now if we have performed poorly.
When does it reach the point when something is done about it ?
Isn't that Clarke's job ?
It is his job SB and I'm sure it won't be through the want of trying. He's an experienced manager at the end of the day. The Barnsley job, is in his own words is the biggest he's taken on- a different level of expectation to the previous clubs that he's managed. However, he's at a club where the crowds and history may be better than his other jobs but history and stature means bugga all if its not backed by ambition.
We are way off being a championship club. I watch a lot of championship games and I see not only a level of football that is beyond our capabilities but i also a level of standing that is beyond us as things stand under this ownership.
This shows the slippery decline where year by year we become more distant from the level that we aspire to play at. All respect to Clarke but he is a lower league manager, rather like Keith Hill and David Flitcroft were if that's a fair comparison. They are all stalwarts of the lower leagues both as players and coaches. Nothing wrong with that and all credit to them. They are the type of managers who could steady the ship and stabilise a club like us who are in decline. Perhaps his experience can stave off potential relegation to the 4th tier because the club has been run into the ground in recent seasons.
