Boingy, I love your optimism but that performance was dire. There was no pattern to our play our passing was appalling and all we appeared to do was hoof it anywhere. You have to question the selection of the side surely. Palmer also has to work on his distribution as it is shocking.Yes, we have lost three central defenders but that wasn’t the problem. We had absolutely no creativity in midfield and hardly any touches in their penalty area. I just don’t understand what has gone wrong since the opening six games. Personally, I think that it’s down to selecting the wrong players.
Despite failing internet connection, I managed to watch the majority of the match and must say that I thought our performance first half especially was absolutely dire. If we weren't passing sideways or backwards then it was hoof ball. The fact that we never bothered their penalty box apart from the goal itself says it all-as did Carlos's face and his refusal to celebrate.
Like many, I fail to see what Diangana or Wallace offer and certainly would have started either Fellows or Johnston along with Molumby instead. At least the changes when they came brought a bit more urgency second half but Luton certainly deserved the point and played with more fluidity and determination than us for most of the game.
Given out injury list of defensive players I thought the back four did ok and Styles and Holgate look like they can do a job for us with their goal (taken very well by Chong I thought) down to a poor pass from Mowatt.
Pleased Maja got his goal today which will surely boost his confidence but the fact is that with so little service he isn't going to replicate his early form. Palmer's save spared our blushes but his kicks remain woefully wasteful -as the crowd's reaction to them every time he took one showed! In a generally lack lustre performance I thought only Grant really stood out though both Furlong and Styles tried to generate some forward movenent.
Hopefully Fellows and Johnston can regain their previous form soon but I would certainly like to see at least one of them start alongside Molumby rather than Wallace and Diangana. Those first few games certainly now increasingly look like we were flattering to deceive but we are still not in a bad position in the table and there is a long way to go yet.
We should revert to our former name West Bromwich Strollers, very apt to the way we play
