It’s interesting that generally players get better reputations when they don’t play and a team doesn’t play well. I remember loads wanting Ross Fitzsimons in when Adam Collin was getting all that unnecessary stick way back when. Those forgetting why Fitzsimons lost his place and how distinctly average he actually was.

Now, we’re third, DC has been out for about 10 days and like you say, oddly being critiqued, especially in the context of players in different positions which is a proper false economy.

I also remember when we signed Jevani Brown, the stock of Junior Morais rose on here with a few posters…

Yeah, if we have a pronounced liking for a player, like I had for Ruben for example, at least that's in line with being a fan
When you have some dislike for one of our players, for whatever reason, maybe you should check yourself on forums like this. You'll end up criticising a player who's done great for us just because he's had a groin strain and given you the chance.

Yeah it can lead to odd stuff. We played well against a terribly set up Harrogate team and my main thought was; DC would’ve ran the show, made them look silly and we’d probably have won by more, rather than, we won and looked better without Crowley.

Maybe it’s a philosophical outlook thing; galas half full or empty.

I take it people aren't allowed to make observations about how a player is playing then? The only comments I have seen are centered around why he is playing so deep and how good he is further forward. Anyone that doesn't agree that he does hold the ball a little too long at times needs to get real.

    Terribly set up Harrogate team.?
    Really ?
I thought it was more of a case thar our team performed excellently only to be denied by a great display from James Belshsaw.

Maybe HTFC were poorly set up today beating Wrexham
1-0 in the FA Cup ?
James Belshaw , incidentally, happened to have another inspired game , culminating in a final act of blowing kisses to the Wrexham fans.😅

Not sure if he’s being told where but most of us know where he should be playing !

They were set up poorly. Allowed us space absolutely everywhere which on the day we exploited to good effect. Abbott and Palmer in particular dovetailed well, Abbott picking up some good advanced positions in all the spaces Harrogate left us allowing Palmer to play forward passes with much more regularity. We did play well. But with DC in those spaces, he’d have ran riot.

Harrogate’s result today doesn’t impact the fact they were badly set up against us. Delighted they’ve beaten Wrexham. Put that in your documentary 😂

There’s definitely been those who’ve got issue with how long he can, at times, hang on to the ball for. Which is fair. Allegedly a sign he’s unhappy at Notts or thinks he’s too good to play for us. They’re the comments I generally have issue with.

I’d rather Notts have the ball, than give it away. Of course DC, and many a footballer, can hang onto it for too long. But given how we’ve started thus far, it’s nothing to worry ourselves about.

this! I'd rather DC had a free reign ala Grimsby, even if he plays a little too deep sometimes, even though it doesn't always payoff. What does in D4? Also, I like how Abbott and Palmer are shaping up together. But it's a complex puzzle, and Brown's an emerging piece, his balls from deep, and Edwards coming back, and there's probably more to Grant than we've seen... and then Ceds....

Our midfield has the basic potential to be top drawer at this level. I think SM has the nous to make it work, but injuries force him to resort to bodge-jobs some games. It's not always square pegs-square holes, imo. Players have to shine no matter what role they're required to do.

Crowley best position depends on the opposition.
If we’re playing a team just sitting deep then he’s better playing deeper himself. He influences the game much better.
I’m yet to remember a time where he’s held on to the ball when we’re counter attacking. He moves the ball very fast.
Whenever he holds on to the ball, it’s because he’s drawing opponents in so we can start an attack.
I think the injury to Jones has meant opposing teams have put more focus on Crowley in recent games.
Reading some comments of him thinking he’s too good for us are just embarrassing.
He’s been unplayable at times this season.
I can’t remember an occasion where opposing fans have applauded one of our players like Bromley did!
