    Are you suggesting Lineker wrote 100% of his own scripts? Are you also suggesting that the "pundits" seek out all the parts of games they dissect?

    I doubt they do. They will have some input but I believe there's a backstage army who do the selecting of which incidents or passages of play will get looked at.

    I can't speak for BBC but I had a friend at Sky and that's exactly what they do, the pundits are fed a lot of stuff in bite sized chunks although they watch some games live. that info is a few years out of date, maybe things have changed but I doubt it

    Kelly Cates? Unmentioned so far, but as good as anyone imo. Don’t know if the BBC could match her Sky salary.

    So, basically, all that is needed is a good presenter. Knowledge of the game isn't altogether necessary and if it's not there at the start, it will grow whilst in the role.

    IMO that’s common in business, a bit risky but I’d sooner take a risk with the knowledge than the skill. Actually mark Chapman is an outstanding example of that, Gary Imlach another.

    Yes, I'd agree. But even Lineker, a seasoned international, who has also been all over the world representing England in many forms
    1. understands the game
    2. understands players
    3. understands the differences of Prem league/ FA/ UEFA/FIFA

    That knowledge enables you , to describe/argue/agree with anything football related from a fair perspective. A good presenter, with none of that knowledge, could be talking complete tosh and not know it.

    Lineker may be a bell end, but there is no doubting his credentials;

    But much of what he says is from a script written by scriptwriters. Given to him and the "pundits" in bite size chunks, quite feasibly from autocue or a story board.

    MA whatever the script is, doesn't matter. He knows the subject at hand,

    Who would you rather tell you you how to fly a fighter jet in combat, a hairdresser or someone who was trained and did so for years?
    The hairdresser could read the script, but has no idea how to relate to it,

    That was part of my suggestion with Jamie Redknapp,. A serious pro, but has a great personalty that projects that role into the technical side of the job.

    But knowing the BBC, they probably have Shamima Beggum lined up. Famous face, knows how to play up to a camera and read a script her team wrote for her, waht's not to like?
