Nail on head. Didn't the EU petition get 5 million votes or something?

This petition is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard. Labour will be in power now for another 4.5 years whatever happens.

I don't agree with some of the things they've done with their budget - particularly with regards to growth. But equally, the Tories lied to get in office multiple times. It just erodes trust further in politics and politicians.

I also think they are at least making some reasonably sensible financial decisions - even if they did not explain they were going to do it in their manifesto. Something the last Govt did not do - they were financially reckless.

Perhaps it opens the door for the biggest liar of them all - Farage.

2001 and 2024 were the lowest turnouts for General Elections since 1918. Labour won the majority of seats at the last election in areas with a low turnout. 'Our' constituency had a turnout of 44.1%, a Labour hold with Reform coming in second.

That's not to suggest Labour only won in areas with a low turnout but they ended up winning more often than not in areas where people either couldn't vote for whatever reason (such as postal vote packages not arriving on time) or couldn't be @rsed to.

Personally speaking I would like to see results classed as null and void with a re vote in constituencies where voting turnout is below a specific percentage; say 65% as a random cut off.

To my mind if re votes still don't achieve an acceptable percentage the holding MP keeps their seat if not enough people want them out. Keeps things simple and voters don't get to point the finger when things don't go their way.

I wonder the following. How many people who've signed that online petition bothered to vote in the General Election? Does anyone genuinely believe the only things to come out of a politician's mouth is the whole truth and nothing but the truth?

How many voters knew what was promised in the respective manifestos and did they know what they were voting for? Would they get off their collective backsides if the General Election was re run?

Moral of the story. Get off your backside and exercise your right to vote. And if you don't purely and simply because you think all politicians are a pack of pathological liars you don't really get to have a say anyway because General Elections clearly aren't for everyone.

Have you seen what they've inherited?

What the last lot did in terms of wrecking the country was on another level. Where was your outrage then?

I still can?t get over the fact Truss will get a lifetime salary, same as Sunak. You should only get this if you?ve been elected in and not chosen by the party.

Why do these grifters go into politics in the first place? For the money, power.. i just don?t get it. Does it matter who is in charge? While we fight amongst tory and labour.. does it make a difference? We?re not winning in any way.

Any for those calling for a re-election due to the amount of lies.. ffs short memories eh. Maybe we should hold a new referendum on the EU? yes? No?? I don?t think you would.

Yes to referendum on the EU and can?t believe people like Sunak with his wealth does not donate his PM salary to charity - greedy
    w anker!

Surely if your wealth reaches X and you are considerably wealthy you shouldn?t be picking up a state pension either! So you could be 60 and on 100K a year plus and get free prescriptions yet a single mum on 25K a year and under 60 must pay. The system is f ucked!

No shame in some! If I was on 200K a year and an Arsenal supporter I would refuse to go in corporate hospitality if Starmer gets it for free. He?s not representing the government FFS and should pay like the rest in there!

And the Tories didn’t inherit a financial mess from the last Labour government. The phrase ‘people in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones’ comes to mind!

Its nowhere near on the same scale.

They also inherited excellent public services from Labour, which they systematically destroyed over 14 years.

Our children have also seen the decline of schools due to Labour who were against gifted children and competition. The fantastic 11+ state grammar school dismantled ( apart from a few left ) and the introduction of university fees plunging many students into huge debt,

Oh no surprise there - Starmer enjoyed a free privileged 11+ education at Reigate Grammar whilst it turned private whilst he was there. Seems like Starmer loves freebies!!!

Now Starmer intent on slapping VAT on private fees which won?t impact on the rich but on those who sacrifice everything to send their child to a private school and some of the reasons could be military - small classes due to disabilities etc etc.

How Starmer has the nerve to criticise Boris when he?s worse. Probably picking his next freebie at the Emirates whilst many on a lesser income pay for their hospitality.

Law and order broken - 2 years inside for some who made disgusting comments about the illegals but then allows the release of more dangerous prisoners of which some have reoffended and s ex offenders getting a slap on the wrist. You can?t make it up!

Wait until the council tax bombshell hits in the New Year. The country is broken! Another tax along with energy prices going up and up! Where does it stop?

No companies will swallow the new costs imposed on them in the budget as it will all be put back onto pricing so the government lied about taxes not increasing! Back door comes to mind!
