"Israel’s incursion into Syria beyond the Golan Heights following Bashar al-Assad’s overthrow must only be “temporary,” the United States said Monday, after the United Nations said Israel was violating a 1974 deal."

“This is a temporary action that they have taken in response to actions by the Syrian military to withdraw from that area. Now, what we want to see, ultimately, is that agreement fully upheld, and we’ll watch to see that Israel does that,” State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said."

Dream on Yanks, Israel will pull back when it's good and ready, when it's happy that the border is secure and not before, which could be quite a long time. Temporary means exactly what Israel wants it to mean. Some are calling this a land grab, if Israel has any sense, which it does, they'll grab as much land as they want for the security of their citizens and feck the corrupt, anti-semitic cesspit that's the UN.

Another failure by Mr Blair no doubt.

BT, sorry mein freund, you just don't seem to realise that, as a matter of protocol, they have no choice in whether or not they welcome the person visting at the behest of the government of the day. It is part of being in the position that they are.
If Blair had been President, then it would have just been down to him, however, we have not descended to those depths just yet which is why the State Visit last week had all the same protocols as the visti by the Head of State in Syria some 22 years ago.

I am sure that you are awaiting the day that President Corbyn will be doing the honours.

A policy of expansionism, genocide and ethnic cleansing. I'm minded to ask if it was Hitler who tried the same trick?

"Israeli tanks have been accused of advancing six miles into Syrian territory on Tuesday, a claim swiftly denied by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

According to a Syrian security source, Israeli troops were said to have reached Qatana, a town approximately 13 miles from the capital, Damascus, and six miles beyond the demilitarised zone which separates the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights from Syria, days after the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime."

"Everything strategic in Syria that can fly, missiles, aeroplanes, also the (military's) scientific research centre, everything will be bombed", said Citrinowicz of the INSS think tank in Tel Aviv.
"We don't know who will counter us from the Syrian side, whether it is Al-Qaeda, (the Islamic State group), whatever, so we have to be ready to protect our civilians." ( And perhaps our only Burnley supporter in the Galilee, in Israel's north!'')

The key short-term concern for Israel, is any remaining stocks of chemical and other strategic weapons.

Israel’s actions are not motivated by territorial ambitions or a desire for conflict with the Syrian regime but are aimed at preemptive defense and safeguarding Israeli citizens.

''IDF is not advancing on Damascus. ''

Benjamin Netanyahu ordered Israeli troops to occupy the Syrian side of a buffer zone on the Golan Heights for the first time in half a century.

Israel is doing exactly what is necessary:
    1. Destroying advanced Syrian military capabilities before they fall into the hands of radical Jihadists.
We do not know what are the motivations of the various players, but we CAN deny them of certain lethal weapons.
October 7th teaches us to focus on capabilities rather than on motivations.

    2. Creating a buffer zone between Israel and Syria in order to ensure the safety of Israelis living on the Golan Heights, especially those close to the border.
This is another lesson from October 7th.

Any sane country would do this.
