That was utter garbage from top to bottom. You cant award any marks for such a disgraceful pathetic performance. The sooner Mr reverted wing backs is out of the door with his so called management team the better. Why did the idiot drop Macari ?? And why blame the pitch for us not playing our usual game, Salford played pretty well on it..

Not defending the performance for one moment but FYI the "idiot" did not "drop" Macari, he was left out purely because he was one yellow card away from a suspension, and because this was the 19th game of the season, he can now get another five cards before a suspension.

The truth is always there if only you take the trouble to look for it.

He didn't blame the pitch as such. He basically said it was not a good pitch but Salford dealt with it and we didn't. Macari being benched was strategic rather than a dropping as it means he doesn't get suspended for totting up cards.

By the way, I'm not trying to defend the team performance today, that was utter pants all round.

Bass 4 Is Slocombe coaching him one on one? The lad who started earlier in the season seems to have forgotten how to kick the ball, and he?s not making many saves either.

Tsaroulla 6 Not bad first half got forward ok, but he?s just being massively handicapped by being played on his wrong side. Has chances to put an early cross in but he inevitably comes back inside and the chance is lost.

Platt 6 Again did ok, headed it and cleared it when required. Like everyone else looked uncertain in possession. CD

Bedeau 5 Looked off it, some heavy touches and poor passes. Some refs may have sent him off for that challenge near the end.

Ness 5 Looks fairly uncomfortable on the ball, steady in defence but not entirely sure why Macari was dropped to make way for him to be fair.

Austin 4 I remember when he played left wing back at Salford last season and was really good. It?s indicative of how we?ve gone downhill since then that he was pretty bad today, the latest in a series of anonymous performances that have been nothing like the old Sam Austin we once knew.

Palmer 4 I really don?t want to criticise him because we all know what a good player he can be, but performances like today?s prompt the question of what does he do? Because apart knock it back 10 yards into his own half it wasn?t much. Like Austin it?s got to be much more than a coincidence that he?s become a much worse player under Maynard.

Crowley 7 Great to see him back, even if it was in that stupid withdrawn position that Maynard insists on playing him. Held on to the ball too long and tired before he was pulled off but the little bit of quality we had went through him.

Abbot 6 Plaenty of energy, got forward more than before but like others it didn?t seem awfully clear to me what he was trying to do. At this rate he?ll be getting recalled, cos Spurs won?t want his confidence being knocked by our clown show.

Didzy 4 Got round the pitch but nothing worked. He?s getting on a bit but he wasn?t like this under Williams. Just another example of someone who?s a different player under this coach. And not in a good way.

Jatta. 3 His worst game for Notts. Simply terrible, missed an early chance and it went downhill from there. Couldn?t have trapped the proverbial bag of cement. What?s gone wrong when we couldn?t even take him off today?

Martin Hinchy Crap and anonymous respectively.

Maynard -10. I know quite have few have jumped on the bandwagon just lately but I don?t recall having such a dislike for a coach pretty much from the off. . Sets us up appallingly, has zero charisma, takes no responsibility for anything, talks in the most banal of cliches, has nil ability to change a game and seems to do nothing except make players worse.
We really do have some good players and he?s totally wasting them.
Don't blame Maynard. Saunders is in charge.

Salford dealt with it because it won?t affect their style of play. Pretty sure they wouldn?t have tried too hard to get it nice and flat. Again, not a defence just an observation. It was a truly awful performance. Maynard?s interview was fair imo, said we were worse than Salford in every area.

What is so frustrating is that this league is wide open and there for the taking. Port Vale have only one point more than us over the last 6 games for example. Can?t believe that we are only 3 points off the play-offs with a game in hand on 3 teams. Having said that I just can?t see us winning it.

Maynard?s interview was really weird because he was both right about the pitch and it also had no relation to what we actually tried to do.

He seemed to be saying that because the pitch was bad we needed to be more direct to Jatta, not take risks playing out and get players high up and around AJ to try and pick up second balls. Which all makes sense. But what we actually did was go 1-0 down with some idiotic passing out from the back, having already nearly gone 1-0 down with some idiotic passing out of the back, which we kept trying because the player we always try and get on the ball was playing deeper than anyone else in midfield, while Jatta was never had anyone within about twenty yards of him. Bizarre stuff all round.

Perhaps I can offer a cautious note of optimism after this truly dismal display.

Since we have been getting gradually worse for several weeks now, and today we duly hit rock bottom, then maybe we'll start to improve again... trajectories, etc?

I mentioned this in the match thread. Maynard seemed pretty annoyed that he had done all the preparation for the game on the basis that it was a tight bobbly pitch and we should go long instead of passing out. He was right about that, but that invites questions about why the players did exactly the opposite of what they were told to do until it had effectively lost us the game, then started following instructions.

Yesterday had an unusual feel about it. I don't know what to make of it.

SM may be an okay coach (though we’re still waiting for proof of that), but he is not a leader. No one’s going to be following Stu into battle after some rousing half-time talk, and sometimes you do need that - like against a battling Salford yesterday. We need a few more leaders on the pitch as well, though - that was sadly lacking yesterday.
