    I was genuinely wondering what a mince paddy was, I thought it was some new festive treat that I’d not heard of.

    Just worked out the thread title is a nationalistic slur so that’s ok then.

    When mince paddies first went on sale I couldn't get enough in my shopping Tralee.

    Got me on that one. So what word(s) is/are offensive? Paddy? A perfectly acceptable shortening of the name Patrick (Padraig) (albeit between friends or a close circle of people) often used by the Irish. Or is it Mince? or Mince Paddy?
    Just found the "Thick as Mince" meaning (a new one on me) and I suppose the two coupled together could be deemed offensive.
