    Stockport County Post Match Thoughts

No way I will be up for a 4.30am game so putting this up early. I guess it will be just normal service resumed but last time I did this I missed the 5-2 win over Cardiff so I hope you witnessed an unlikely barnstormer.

    Thoughts?

As I said on the match thread, that was a lot better, in terms of effort and desire. They are a good team and at times played us off the park, especially the first 15 minutes of the second half. You could see at the end our players had put a real shift in, and if we had done that in the last two games we would have had better results. However the tactics are pathetic, stupid formation lack of bodies in midfield leaves us open so much.

Powell and Kelly did excellent against a very good County midfield, they had little support from Evan’s frightening front four. The fact we keep trying to make this silly formation work amazes me, it hasn’t all season. When we put McWilliams and took Wilks off (another awful game from Wilks) we looked tighter and broke up play better and in the end either team could have nicked it. I know we didn’t create much but that is not helped by a CF that can’t walk, can’t hold a ball up and contribution is virtually non-existent.

I do think we have a group of decent players that are badly managed and badly coached, and the all we can hope for from this management team is that our players have enough to get 50 to 55 points to keep us in the league.

TS isn’t helping us and we have all discussed that on other threads, but today we were better but we have to start getting points away from home and to start to become difficult to beat. We are desperate for a proper CF like what they had or a Smith like player, neither JCH or Hugill are that man.

Stockport were very impressive, they worked really hard on and off the ball and their fans really got behind them.

Being out fought and outplayed and Lucky to get a point at home against a team who were non league a couple of years ago sums up where we are as a club.

To move forward we need a progressive management team.

Agree Stockport the better team. 2 points chucked away for them but the good news is one gained for us. Our goalie saved us several times today, no viktor but better than the ex piggy.

We have nothing up front at all of note and little drive in midfield.

Jules and oddifin good in defence today. Defence is prob our strongest area tho prine to giving daft goals away at times.

We need to strengthen midfield and forrud line in January. 3 players prob not enough tho for any serious climb up the league but may stop us going down which has to be the goal now.

The squad is just a group of individuals in the same strip, they are like total strangers. No real formation, no plan or direction. They aren't bad players (Well most of them aren't) they're just not a team. That is down to management or should I say lack of it.
Stockport moved the ball about well, sliced through us like a hot knife through butter and always looked as though they had an extra player. we were lucky to get a point, our goal looked a mile off side to me, though i was a long way off.

The centre defenders had a good game, it's nice to see Jules being so comfortable on the ball. Jamed has a stinker. The midfield was up against it with the formation but when they had the ball they give it away too easily. Clarke Harris is just a waste of a shirt, too slow and cumbersome, never won a header alll game. The only time we looked dangerous is when Holmes came on, why doesn't he get more game time.

With this squad, with JCH being a spent force and Hugill just not wanting to play, I would give the central attacking role to Nombe and give support from a combination of Green, Hungo, Wiles and Holmes, why play a big Centre Forward when they don't win any challenges anyway.
We need fresh ideas, and the won't come fron the present management team, so time for new blood give some young untried a chance we have nothing to lose and perhaps a lot to gain.

Evans is as thick as the proverbial.
Hungbo, starts on left, a surprise, all play down is the right. (When we manage to get dorward)
After 15ish, swops him to right, then play is all down left with nombe.
Ultimately swopped with green (who isn’t fit)

    One player among many, mismanaged.

    It's his brother's car.

Lucky to get a point today against a far better footballing side.

The withdrawal of Nombe and Hungbo sums up SE to me. He has no idea how to attack teams other than put big lads up front and hope for the best. Holmes looked good when he came on - keep Hungbo on, spread the play and let Nombe's mobility cause Stockport problems. Rather than letting our own version of the Elgin Marbles - JCH, Green and Wilks, flounder about contributing next to nothing!

Survival is the only mission this year, which, for a team relegated from the Championship, is a disgrace!

As posted in the last game thread. He's on holiday for 3 week.
