When the teams were announced it looked an accident waiting to happen, apart from his mistake ( which was down to rustiness) I thought he grew into the game and played very well indeed, there?s definitely a good player in the making, just needs more game time, an big upgrade on Racic
I read somewhere that the club were really excited about him pre season, so it surprised me when he was dismal at Sheff Wednesday. It can be a really tough transition from some European leagues to English football. The pace of it is unrivalled.
Back to Diakite…
I was surprised (and indeed disappointed) to see him in the starting XI. His performance early on sustained this view and his ‘give away’ pass that cost us their goal, showed laziness. HOWEVER…happy to give the guy a break, particularly as Brunty & Co picked him to start.
There was certainly some commitment and skills evident thereafter - he earned my respect. Decent squad entry at least for the future.
Like many, I never rated him based on his previous brief appearances and was surprised he was handed a start. Thought he was pretty poor first half with some sloppy play and not terribly aware but, credit where it is due, second half he was much improved and began to show signs of why we signed him in the first place. With more game time I'm sure he will improve further although our priority in the Transfer window surely remains trying to recruit a creative midfielder.
Makes no sense at all. Furlong had a higher rating than Diakite yesterday and has had a high rating for two seasons, blocked lots of threats and has been not only a defender and midfielder but one of our main attacking threats too. Diakite has one good half of football and hes full of praise for him. No mention of his poor touch that lead to their first goal. I think Diakite will come good given time but only Mowatt and Heggem match Furlongs consistent good performances for this club.
