Thread: Stockport County Post Match Thoughts

  1. #31
Stockport are a very decent team. We got away with it today.

    Did we learn anything?

    Hungbo - return. Very poor.

    Wilks - return. Very poor.

McWilliams - joke of a player. Someone mentioned we looked better when he can on. What on earth were they watching.

Both full backs are not playing well but Jules is for me the find of the season. We looked so much stronger with him in there as opposed to Boxing Day.

What I don’t understand is why we aren’t putting crosses in? When we do we look dangerous. We beat Northampton with crosses. We should have taken the lead against Wigan with a cross. We trouble Stockport twice when we crossed it. Feed JCH and he will score.

    Exactly Mellow.

Why does SE keep saying about working in the training ground..........exactly how Steve?? Because it's the same sh!te delivered every game ...... The times Wilks gets the ball, goes on a run, fullback overlaps him and Wilks loses it and the fullback is miles out of position.

We are a side built with players from teams what have done well, but we have then to try and make a team out of them. Wilks has no intention of being a team player. JCH is too wooden now be be effective anywhere. Playing a front 4 drains the midfield and we get overrun there......

Bramhall, Raggert and Humphries we sat behind us today, someone asked Cam why he wasn't playing? Go and ask him, pointing to SE shouting and having a fit on the touchline. They all burst out laughing.............that say's it all about building a team and what SE & PR are doing.

Decent point against a better team. Much improved on the second -half against Wigan, might have nicked an undeserved win if only our players could stand up in the penalty area.
Referee bottled sending off their number 19. A whole 45 minutes a man extra would have been interesting.
Surprised to see the mass exodus at 90 minutes with the game just getting interesting. Ditto the boos from the kop.

Uttis, he in reality, Wilks, brings us nothing. You're right with his two good goals and errr errrr errrr ...not much else. It's clear to see why Weds fans say he's plays 1 good game and 9 bad, that's him in a nutshell. Send him back and get someone in who will put a much better effort in.

    Observations:
It was intriguing to see Humphreys and Bramall looking happy and relaxed in the warm up despite not making the bench.
We need a less jittery goalkeeper.
Senior players in our defence and midfield no longer have the upper body strength to compete effectively. They need replacing and their contracts paid up.
Senior players in attack no longer want to run and hassle as much as they should. See above.
Our goal might have been offside. Discuss.
Stockport gave us a football lesson in every department. We were lucky to get a point. Did we ever seriously threaten their goal?
It was as quiet as a funeral in the ground.
The ref was awful. Should have awarded a second yellow card.
Even so we are lucky tonight. Very.

Sometimes he pops up in defence, where his tackling is almost non-existent. Granted he does make some headed clearances.

Sometimes he pops up in midfield, where his passing is sometimes competent.

Sometimes he pops up in attack, where his contribution is occasionally memorable (Cambridge).

We paid a million quid for someone who can run.

Maybe another coach would convince me that Exeter didn't get the best part of the deal.
Been saying this for a year. It's not Sam's fault we paid so much for him.

This deal is that bad on return and value for the club I'm convinced people involved were on the make.

In any other business the person(s) most responsible for a million pound plus mistake (cos his wages must also be handsome), would have been sacked.

What do we do. 1 decision maker is still best mates with the chairman, the 2nd
was promoted from the head of department to the exclusive Don's club at the top table.

If that doesn't tell you the madness that is running Rotherham United I don't know what what will

Be told Wilkes leaving in the transfer window, we will wait & see.

What did you expect for a million pounds?
It may be a lot to our club but in football terms it's an absolute pittance, it's like spending 10p at a jumble sale to rummage about in a bargain bucket and expecting to find a diamond necklace.
When he was at Exeter he played in a pair as a central striker and averaged about 1 goal every 3 games.
We've had a succession of managers who have played him anywhere but where he has been most effective in the past and he's never had an adequate striking partner or decent supply from midfield since he's been with us.
Until those basics are sorted out we're never going to see the best of him.

Not at my most eloquent after 5 pints of stout and Belgian Blue in Bluecoat after the match but...

Ronnie came in after the Bergara shambles. No real management experience but good knowledge as assistant (and reserve team manager?) at Tranmere.

A slow start, but always competitive. Signed some great free players to get us up. Then spent good money in Div. 3 (by our standard, but nothing compared with other teams) on mostly unknown reserve players.

Solid central defenders (Artell and Branston) were upgraded to Macca and Swailes when we went up.

Thompson and Talbot were class in midfield and morphed into Watson and Mullin. We had full backs and wingers who could run, overlap and cross. (Sedgy, Monkey, Hurst, Bryan, Scott)

Our forward line (Lee, Robins, Warne) was massively better than what we have now.

We stayed in the Championship (or whatever they called it then) on merit. If Boothy had gambled on a couple of quality loans we could have made the play-offs for the top division, but eventually slipped away to 16th. (ish)

Also, quality players like Pollitt, Garner, Minto, Byfield, Butler - even LFW was better than Hugill!

Not a single one of today's squad would make that team.

Where did it all go wrong?

    Feeling nostalgic!

    Or maybe depressed...
