To be honest, I don’t think it matters much. He’s not signed a new contract and is free to walk in the summer and I think, with his ego, he will walk.
I’d say if Jones can get back to his best, Crowley is a player who we can do without. Martin will improve if given more freedom in the team rather than wingback. As a quick fix if Crowley wasn’t here, I’d say we’ve got the basics covered.
Will we miss his creativity when he’s controlling a game? Of course. Will we miss his now far more regular issues such as showboating and refusal to pass and losing the ball in stupid places? No

I hope he stays. Selling your second best player while your best player is injured would say it all about our ambitions. We're a different side with Crowley playing and he might just be the difference.

I agree? some of the stuff on this thread is mind boggling. Stuff about ego, all footballers have an ego.
DC is comfortably our best player IMO, and I include JJ. He?s a player that will play through the lines, take the ball in tight spaces and will often get us playing. Without a player like him, JJ becomes nullified as the play becomes more pedestrian.
He?s a L2 player so will of course make mistakes.

Why do some of our so called supporters constantly have to do this.

In his time at Notts his performances have ranged from good to unplayable. His assists and goal return has been very good and he?ll be in league 1 next season either with or without us.

I haven?t witnessed anything. Not a single thing. And where does this perception of him not being part of the team come from? Again, no evidence.
I say with absolute certainty that we don?t win 3 on the bounce over Christmas without him. I was ill over Christmas so watched the MK and Cheltenham games on TV, opting to listen to the away commentary. In both games the commentators constantly stated that everything runs through Crowley, and it absolutely does.
He holds onto the ball because he has the skill to lose a player with ease and give us the overload. And he does it time and time again.
The fans that criticise him for being a show pony are the same as the ones that criticised the likes of Nemane for not trying to take on three players every time he got the ball.
Just have some class. Dan Crowley is a brilliant player at this level and we all know it. If you don?t, then you don?t know the first thing about football.

Totally agree with all this and those posters recognising how good Crowley is and has been for us. We’re lucky to have him and I hope he stays but will wish him all the best for his future if he leaves. I just don’t understand the need some posters have to slag off ex-players and those they perceive to be wanting to leave.

I do find some of the Crowley genuinely baffling. He has a far more positive impact on the team than he has ever had a negative one.

Some of the criticism of DC is a perfect example of why we simply cannot have nice things.

If you want to break it down tactically, I think SM currently has DC in the perfect spot both for him and for us as a side.

Pre-injury, nobody wanted Crowley starting consistently deep, picking up the ball off the back three as he was deemed too far away from the top end of the pitch.

He comes back from his injury and we have found a midfield two that compliment each other nicely, in Palmer and Abbott and we are slightly short in the 10 role (Edwards and Grant not back at that point and McGoldrick being managed effectively) so we go to two up front, leaving DC to play in the hole.

Absolutely perfect. If he wants to drop deep, brilliant; we know GA can support and MP can do similar. If he wants to drift and look for space, the other 10 players and the shape give him the opportunity to do so.

DC is, at this level, an outrageous talent. It?s a different style, but I have only ever seen Jack Grealish carry the ball better than DC.

I implore Notts fans to stop trying to find issues with him. Just enjoy him whilst he is here.

Edit: DC is definitely not above observable critique, but stop the whole, ooooooo I saw him on the bench and he looked grumpy so obviously he hates us all.

Agree 100%, the miserable gits that do this seem to look at football as if it's work at a factory, warehouse or office.
It isn't - it's entertainment and that means watching players do things regular folk can't do.
An 'ego'? I should hope he has a big ego, we need confident players to try to dominate. I love it when he holds on to the ball - because you know the opposition want somebody else to have it rather than him. It's a result if they can force him to offload to a less dangerous player.

It's all too easy and obvious to think about the couple of times he was dispossessed, while still searching for a good, creative option. What do the same people think when another player just passes it out of touch two times running, or commits turnovers time after time for not being able to do what DC does to get away from them? No reaction it seems, or they would mention it.

It won't be just the opposition commentators identifying him as a danger man, it'll be the managers and players too hellbent on stopping him - and that frees up space for other players to take advantage.

I'm looking forward to another vintage performance today, because who knows how long it will last.
Wootten and Ruben moved on, and it works both ways, we offered him just a 2-year deal at the time. That's not a great deal of security, so eventually the boots on the other foot.
