A lot of media noise around grooming gangs again and only right to question why practically f ck all has been done to change things since the public enquiry but there is also a lot of disingenuous behaviour going on with too many being concerned with trying to score political points rather than genuinely helping to stop such gangs.
As for Raja Miah, yes he got his MBE 20 years ago and promotes himself as an anti-extremist activist with a wealth of experience in this field, but he also clearly has his own agenda and is hardly squeaky clean himself having headed two failed "free schools" where he is alleged to have taken monies out for himself. He slams Labour, Labour members label him "dangerous" and "racist". Tit for tat.
A far more reasoned position in my opinion is made by journalist Tristan Kirk. Having sat through various grooming trials himself as well as covering the public enquiry, he has heard horrific evidence of abuse as well as hearing of the appalling failures of the public bodies involved including local councils and police.
Calls for a further public enquiry however, he argues, may grab headlines but will achieve nothing new and will be both exceptionally costly and lengthy. Far better to actually follow through on the recommendations made by the chair of the 2022 enquiry, Prof. Alexis Jay. The money for any further public enquiry would be much better spent on actually implementing her recommendations and on a crumbling judicial system that has shamefully allowed 380 criminal cases involving ***ual offences to be abandoned in one year alone because a suitable judge or magistrate could not be found.
The failure to implement Jay's recommendations is almost as shocking as the failings that allowed the grooming gangs in Rotherham, Telford and elsewhere to continue to operate for as long as they did in the first place. I'm not saying that Labour are blameless in this but it happened on the Conservative government's watch. All party's should put aside political differences and point scoring opportunities and concentrate on trying to address these heinous crimes properly. ( Oh, and Musk should just f ck off 😁![]()
