Players know they have the power to force whatever they deem fit. DC has done this himself. In fact if DC had been more intelligent than he has been, he could have signed a pre contract at MK and added wonga to his pay whilst citing I?ve saved you 300k, so I want 100k signing on fee as an example.
Notts got an offer we deemed acceptable and DC wanted to go? move on, the club and player have.
Whilst I agree with the sentiment entirely, your contract law point is factually incorrect, it depends entirely on the terms of the contract and terms of dismissal especially with fixed term contracts (used in football). And football contracts are arguably slightly more binding as they contain a registration element without which, you cannot play for another club.

But you are right aside from that, nearly everyone on this board would change jobs for significantly more money.

In that, football is no different, except in the eyes of fans.

The only players who have real power are those in good form, fit and coveted by other teams
Once a player has a serious injury, loses form and can't get in the team they fear what will happen when their contract expires
Dan is currently in demand but I hear on the grapevine that he's lost several moves in his younger days because of adverse findings in medicals

He has handled things spectacularly badly this time and needlessly burnt bridges

As the club says he would have stayed with us if we'd paid want he wanted. Dan used MK as a bargaining chip really
Let's see how it works out

On the replacements of course they come with risk and players like Abbott who I think has been nothing short of a sensational are probably few and far between in the manner he adapted to men?s football so quickly. That said they may well rise to the standard required and Edwards is like a new player to the club considering he?s hardly played and he did come with a pedigree and plenty of experience so I?m optimistic with him.
If we can want to replace Crowley with the same experience and ability then we?re going to probably have to pay out a similar fee as many players aren?t out of contract at this point in time. It was the same with Langstaff, if you want a proven goal scorer at the level, guess what you are going to have to pay a lot of money along with the challenge of tempting someone who isn?t coming as No1. I trust the owners and I think seeing DCs comments there?s literally not much they could have done.

But in the summer when we signed young players, or had them on the bench, there was so much energy about that not being acceptable.

And now have, according the the statement, replaced a proven L2 player with two kids out of academies, there is no such energy.

Someone was on about replacing him and I pointed out that the statement said we've already replaced him, what is there to discuss about them in this thread?

Crowley's given sterling service. Great entertainment value, goals and assists. The club has banked circa ?450K. Dan Crowley has benefited Notts massively.

Crowley has done what anybody would do in his shoes and helped secure his future; footballers have very short earnings capacity for their natural, innate skills.

    450k?
Everybody really understands why he's gone. The criticism is the disrespectful way he has done it.

Crowley has benefit hugely from Notts as well. He's gone from playing in the backwaters of English football (no offence, Morecambe!) to playing for a forward-thinking, well-supported club who's style of play allowed him to maximize his skills. Not many people were talking about him two years ago. Now, he's hot property and will be among the highest earners in L2, if not the highest.

Win-win I'd say. Both parties will likely go on to enjoy success.
