With you there MA but the prurience police here wouldn't approve of such comments.

You’ll have to look elsewhere - in the direction of Surrey - to see who first mentioned it, but are the white, middle aged, male heteros really better than Gabby Logan and Kelly Cates at hosting a football TV programme?

Anyway, Mark Chapman, plus those two would be my three front runners, but it’s all just opinion.

You flatter yourself, just because I found your observation that there were (and I paraphrase) too many ethnic presenters in the media which didn't reflect the world you inhabit, rather lacking in self awareness and an indication you were more concerned with the ethnicity of the person doing the job than how well the person was doing the job. it's not triggering, just rather lamentable. But then I just see an actor, a news reporter or a sports presenter and my opinion is based on how well they do the job in my view. Whether they are male, female, black, brown, white, gay, bi or whatever has no influence on my option whatsoever.

In terms of the "best" presenters/commentators being white middle aged heteros, not really sure how you can definitely determine a persons ***uality (or why it matters), indeed in mens football there is such a stigma against being openly anything other than hetero***ual, that I would suggest that the law of averages suggests nobody actually does know who isn't.

It is any case a subjective opinion coloured by ones own bias as to whether a particular person is the "best" presenter.

I'm sure AF will pop up and scold you for such ***ist comments as he did with me quite a while back when I made a similar comment about women's volleyball!

As for me, I wasn't policing prurience, just surprised that one would critique a presenter for anything other than their ability to do the job.

Off the subject slightly but my favourite presenter appears for 17 consecutive weeks in the autumn and early winter and just lets the ?game? speak for itself / Scott Hanson, who anchors NFL Redzone on sky Sports Mix (in UK) for ?seven advert free hours? from 6pm. Not sure the programme style would translate to footy but he adds spice to an already spicy (to me) spectacle

The irony is, that this job was already in the bag for Jermaine Jemas, until he buggered it up for himself.

Hard act to follow, but the three best candidates, imo (Cates, Chapman and Logan) will be sharing it then. Good choice.

But not the best one. Smacks of BBC tactics similar to that which drove Simon Mayo out of Radio 2
