I'm well aware of what cohort Trump and his acolytes are targetting, and as of 2022, the estimate was that there were 11 million undocumented immigrants lived in the United States, comprising 3.3 percent of the total population and 23.8 percent of the immigrant population. THATS who will be looking over their shoulder now Trump has been inaugurated.

The anti-defamation league (and organisation which fights anti-semitism in the USA) has publicly stated that the gesture by Musk was nothing more than an awkward gesture and certainly not the salute you inferred it was.

You do realize that their is no such thing as an undocumented immigrant? It's a term created to hide the the fact they are all criminals. US law clearly states that any anyone entering the country without a legally issued visa or passport is an Illegal and subject to arrest and deportation. They are aliens since they were not born in the US or in a US territory.

Our immigration rules have been a mess for years Spaldy and even where rules exist it?s an entirely different matter of enforcing them.

It is interesting to see the stance of many so called liberal countries such as Denmark and Sweden who are taking a much harder line - somewhat successfully and removing the attractions of moving there.

France, Italy and the UK are a little overwhelmed by the influx over the last 10 to 20 years and often don?t have the infrastructure and resources to deal with influxes in such huge numbers.

It doesn?t seem to matter much what the political persuasion of government in the UK there has been a seeming inability to understand concerns of existing citizens, an inability to deal with the problem and an unwillingness to have a proper debate.

The current administration at times just brands anyone who raises a concern as being a far right racist. We are increasingly behaving in a way and writing cheques we can no longer afford.

The danger of just borrowing more and more is that government appears to then not be that bothered about balancing the books. The sadness being that the poorest are often then affected the most as governments can?t then afford to provide the basis services people pay their taxes for.

I suspect it?s going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

There was an interesting project New Labour did in Africa about 2000 where they invested in the local economy and provided funding and training to make the country better and as a result the economy and security improved and people didn?t want to leave as much.

What Trump promises are made of dreams and can fix any country. I for one wish we had someone like that here. Now will he act on anything only time will tell. Some are weird like Tariffs in a cost of living crisis around the world how t f would that work? More expensive prices, people don't have money how can that benefit a country? Fng China is the best thing that can ever happen. If countries went back to basics and made there own things they would not even be talked about. Here our steel and ores are bought by China 75% of it but now it's in steep decline and never to go back up again. Country is doomed as it's the only profits the country makes and with no within infrastructure eg manufacturing as we have sold all our souls to China Australia will be just a low populated third world country. So I hope what Trump preaches comes true for Americas sake as i don't want them to be like us. The USA also pays a disproportionate amount to fund a lot of world bodies. Pulling funding from the WHO is an interesting first shot no doubt designed to make other countries pay their share.
