    O/T Frogs.

We have a largish pond at our place and I was a little concerned as there appeared little activity from the frogs or any spawn up until now. We have had spawn between Christmas and New Year on one occasion. This year however, I had not noticed any spawn until well into the first week of January. Up until yesterday there was only a few lumps of the stuff dotted around the pond and I was a little concerned something was amiss.

This morning however, after we had listened to them last night in the distance, it was clear the little devils had been busy overnight. There is now loads of spawn, so I need worry no more.

Incidentally, frogs are so vocal at this time of year, particularly during foggy or damp nights.

Love the seasons but I have to say I?m looking forward to spring.

Anyone else have these great amphibians close by?

Ah! You refer to our French cousins over the water. Where as I was referring to the Amphibious type who reside in ponds. However it is rumoured the ones you refer to do take to water occasionally and it is also rumoured that they can be quite amorous as well.

I must admit apart from filling up the bird feeders I've not looked in the pond I'll make it my mission to have a look in the morning

There was a decent sized pond in our back garden when we moved in. Very popular with the little amphibians it was. Place looked like some kind of web footed orgy when they were spawning. There were literally hundreds of the little phuckers banging away like there was no tomorrow.

It just got too much at one point and far too bloody loud. Mate came around with a couple of decent sized dustbins and between us we relocated as many of them as we could along with their spawn over several trips to the River Cole. Then I smashed the concrete out and filled it in.

Oh, and I chopped the laburnum tree with the rope swing down which the previous occupants had mounted above the pond so their three young children aged between three and six at a guess could swing across it (probably in the hope they'd drown if the poison from the laburnum seeds didn't get them first 😁 ) .

I know it seems harsh given the frogs were in the garden before we arrived in the house the pond was attached to but there's no way we're ever installing a new one. We do still get frogs and they're more than welcome to come and go as they please. Preferably without stopping off for a shag before leaving 😂 .

We use always get frogs in our garden back in the early 70's but ever since people started building walls between their properties, it has made it impossible for their movement. Nothing now. Miss the critters. Reminds me of happier times watching all that s e x in the wild. Never the birds and the bees, always the frogs....
