On Sunday, as part of the National Bird Day survey, I spent an hour counting birds to report back to the RSPB. Admittedly, it was a horrible day but I was struck by how few different species of birds were in my garden - just three. We have lots of feeders and try to encourage wildlife. In total I saw one Robin, one Blackbird and then 17 Magpies sitting on our wall. I wonder if this is a very lucky thing?!
For full disclosure, I also spotted a Tricky Tree which I will be pruning next Sunday. No Stags I'm afraid.

When we moved into this property where most gardens have a number of trees, we'd regularly see greenfinches, blue & great tits, long tailed tits, the Robin (don't often see more than one in a territory unless up to something), blackbirds, thrushes, dunnocks, wrens, jays, wood pigeons and from time to time other visitors. Like you it's now just about the Robin, wren, one or two blackbirds and the wood pigeons. Sometimes can hear the blue tits. Very sad.
There are plentiful squirrels but there always have been.
Up in North Yorkshire, there seems to be so much more birdlife than in the East Midlands. At the weekend, I counted about 20 red kites in the sky at the same time. I'd never seen a single one before moving here. Lots of robins and bluetits too, as well as the odd heron and kingfisher.
