You should have had a bet 😂 To go from 42 to 85 is some jump, I would have probably guessed 60.

Knowing what we know now, it's easy to forget that we had the second best defensive record in the National League during the promotion season. Only Boreham Wood conceded fewer goals than we did. Cameron got into the team of the season! Of course even in the National League that defence wasn't above the odd calamity, but I don't think anyone could reasonably have expected *quite* what happened once we were promoted.

I do think it's a shame that so many of that team struggled with the step up and we had to break it up so quickly, but that also shows just how exceptionally well it did in the promotion season. It was 4 points away from beating a team that's still largely in tact and now third in League One.

Luckily I'm not a gambling man but even I couldn't believe how crap our non league defence would be against EFL L2 forwards

Whilst factually correct. It?s reminiscent of the 2009 season, in that the best form of defence was attack that season for us.

There were very few times teams went toe to toe with us and didn?t park the bus (Boreham wood?s reason for conceding so few)

The defence was not great, but a combination of greater attack, teams parking the bus, and quite frankly a much lower level of quality in the final third was the difference.

Having thr second best defence was clearly a fallacy.

In the comparison with Wrexham, they made some key signings when entering the league, signing a premier league goalkeeper and a championship defender and yet another forward from leagues higher. They like us realised quickly (also conceding 5 on the opening day) that their back line was not good enough, but instead of sticking they made quick changes, that was the difference. We signed Stone and Macari on loan in comparison.

I think Stockport did the same after getting promoted. Had a poor start, realised they needed better defenders, and signed them ASAP.

To be fair Luke Williams said repeatedly last season that he hoped we'd bring in some defenders in January
From memory the only one he was given was an unknown kid on loan from Norwich
Together with some midfielders/forwards who hardly featured
We all knew we needed defenders but it was left till close season to bring in the outstanding guys we have now

Bit of an ouch comment from a Barrow fan...

"if Kyle Cameron even gets one more second in a Barrow shirt I?ll never put another penny of my money into this club"
