With regard to the bit in bold, I refer my learned friend to the many times I've described the DCFC transfer process on here.

    1. PW and his staff compile a list of roles they wish to fill and they add some suggestions of player names that would fit the bill. They have no knowledge of a player's avalbility. It's more like, we'd like Fred Karno if available, if he's not, we'd like a similar sort of player.

    2. The recruitment team source players, either named or in the same vein as one of the named players. They then scout them to check if they fit the bill. If the answer is yes, it's talk to the club, agent and player time. Can they negotiate a fee that makes sense in the market and within DCFC's budget. Once agreement has been reached between all parties the buck passes back to PW

    3. PW has a (video) chat with the player and then he has the final say.

I have yet to find someone able to explain to me exactly why the fact we have a predominantly L1 level squad, taking into account the above, the inability to pay fees to club, player or agent in the previous 2 seasons, the limited budget the club (note club, not PW) had and the plethora of injuries is, somehow, PWs fault.

He might have the last word but the majority of the work is done by other "departments".
To what extent they are Paul Warne’s signings or signings made by a recruitment team during Paul Warne’s tenure is something I can’t honestly comment on MA as I don’t have access to that sort of knowledge.
I’d imagine (and hope) that PW has more than some sort of video call before he has the final say, but who knows.
For clarification I suppose the debate has become one about the players who have been signed since we fell on hard times/were rescued by DC.
It is my opinion that Rosenior/the recruitment team of the time worked a minor miracle in attracting the quality of players they/he did at such a difficult time. It is also my opinion that PW/the recruitment team have made two or three excellent signings and a handful of other decent ones, but that nine or ten have been disappointing and he has also had to jettison two or three excellent players in the process.
Hopefully the most recent signings will all prove successful and put him well in credit. Something for others to decide perhaps if the news I’ve just heard is true.

My explanation of the way it works is based on interviews given by Warne and by Clowes. That is how it works. PW was Head Coach, not the Manager.

His input was as described in #1 on my list. I want a left winger with this and that capabilities, players X and Y have what I want, if they're not available get me as close a fit as we can afford. Then it's the recruitment team doing their bit. Then the bean counters and finally back to PW.

All that rigmarole BC's method was best. Drive up to the players house at 2am, tell him to sign here and job done! 👍
