OT - The last of the Few. RIP.

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of John ?Paddy? Hemingway DFC ? the last Battle of Britain Pilot. The very last of the Few.

He and his brothers in arms must hate what has become of the world over recent decades. Everything they fought for is either gone or under threat.

Paddy, many thanks for the sacrifices you and your colleagues made. Shame it is starting to look like it was all in vain.

indeed it was all in vain. They gave their all, to prevent an invasion of these islands, only for the politicians to open the door anyway and flood it with so many cultures, we have ghettos everywhere and British culture eroded.
Be interesting to see a new draft and how many actually rush in to put on the uniform.
The days of national pride have been watered down, all by design.

Or…it was all in vain because, eighty years on, we are seeing the rise of the far right, the enemy within and a delusional, despotic dictator in Europe all over again. Take your pick, but I suspect that’s probably what MA was getting at.

Anyway, personally I don’t think it was all in vain and probably best not to politicise this otherwise very respectful thread.

"and a delusional, despotic dictator in Europe all over again". That not like you to see Starmer in the same light as others ....

But I agree - both with you and TTR - the current state of affairs brings into question why that generation gave their lives, ultimately it seems, in vain. It would / will be fascinating to see whether the new wave of fascists in Europe maintain popular support as much as it would / will be interesting to see how the new wave of migrants might respond to a call for arms. I have no great expectations of either and fear for our children's children in oh so many ways.

For my part I'll just say I reckon I owe my life to Paddy and his mates, so thanks

If you mean way of life, then it certainly isn't the way of life, they died for, to what we have now.

the rise of the far right as you call it, are because of one reason. Ask yourself why
