It's not a love-in, but you can't deny his achievements. He's won four promotions with three different sides. How many other managers can claim that? Like it or not, he's a better manager than Maynard until proven otherwise. My point is that it often takes an extra ingredient to turn an OK manager/coach into one that wins promotions. Paul Cook has that ingredient, but it's not clear that Maynard does.
Teams managed by coaches with that extra ingredient tend to find a way to win. They snatch victories from the jaws of defeat rather than the other way around. Again, like him or not, Parkinson at Wrexham has that ingredient. They seem to play awful football to the point that even their fans are fed up, but somehow they keep scraping wins and are looking good for a third straight promotion - yes, with ridiculous funds, but money doesn't guarantee success.
