I appreciate your point of view. It is getting harder to generate comment hence my poor attempt at humour above. I suppose the site is competing with Instafacetwitgram which is probably easier for some people. However, I refuse to use the oligarchsphere of the Muskrat etc al. So this is my only option to be involved in any Alex based chat.

I appreciate the site though I don't come on as much as I do. I got cheesed off by some people who do not understand the modern game, don't go to matches and can only see the game through rose tinted glasses which have gone cloudy as they think is like playing at the back of the park.

    Hahah..

    Understand the 'modern' game?

Perhaps you could explain what the 'modern' game is and why we have not won any world championships since 1966?

Perhaps you could explain why clubs have 9 or 10 players BEHIND one striker today? Is this the modern game when the idea is to stay in your own half and pass the ball between you and spend 5 days a week training like this? I really could not see the great players in history like George Best and Bobby Charlton ever enjoying this so called 'modern' game. Go and look at the pitches they used to play on and only practiced twice a week and compare them in todays 'modern' game?

It was 30 mins last night before we even had a shot at goal! Is this the 'modern game? Did you ever play this game in the old days? I spent most of my life going to games since I was 10 years old in Crewe!

Frank Lord had loads of hat tricks here at Crewe and yet nobody can repeat that in todays 'modern' game.

Playing at the back of the park was great and I remember getting a hat trick in the first half of a match and I was playing right half back then!

I suggest you spend time thinking how great football was and how boring it is today in the 'modern' game!

I look on this site pretty much every day but I have other things going on in my life to be getting embroiled in pointless discussions around the modern game versus the "good old days". However, I will say this. In the modern game defenders are fitter and, by and large, better "footballers". Back in the old days defenders, especially centre halves, were less competent on the ball and certainly less skillful generally. The reason forwards aren't scoring hat tricks every week is because they are up against better players than 60+ years ago. And the reason for this is better training methods and better, forgive my language Mike, coaching.

On the subject of last nights game, we played pretty well on the whole against a decent team and a bloody awful referee. Apparently Dave Artell felt the referee was one sided in our favour. He obviously saw a different game from me!! And I hope Long stays fit for the remainder of the season and he starts every game!

Football forums are for discussions and indeed differences of opinion. I stopped posting here as some posters said I was stopping others posting. Well that worked wonders didn't it? A thousand fans at away matches and hardly any of them posting on this forum which is the only one for CAFC as I don't count Facebook and Twitter. I don't go on there like gazan doesn't and I admire him, alongside some others who travel into Alex games. I can be criticised for my views but they are as valid as anyone else's views. Why are some posters so horrible when they could be nice, like you are Timmy!

I was the only Alex fan along with a mate who went to see us play away at Barrow, Darlington and Crystal Palace when there was no separation of fans and and did not see any other Alex away fans and yet I get criticised for not attending home games. I used to watch Spurs in the 1960's when they were the best team in the country ie when we played away that is...The days when we had a reserve team and Timmy, I just don't believe players today are better than yesteryear. Of course they may be fitter but to me that does not increase football ability. IMO at least. Players of the olden days were picked based on how good they were as they are now. ie PL standard and National league std. I think there are far too many managers and coaches as no decent player needs coaching. Gary Player said if a coach can play golf better than he could, he would listen to him.

We had some pretty decent players here in the past and imo far better than what we see today despite all the coaching they have. We could save a lot of money doing away with most of them.

Just my opinion and I really cannot understand why fans read this forum and yet don't contribute their views, no matter how boring. Crewe people are miserable and so unlike the people I have met elsewhere. Some say, miserable gits!

I think we did well to beat Grimsby as they were on a good run.

BTW Timmy. Players don't score hat tricks here like yesteryear as firstly they are not as good as those that did and also when you have 18 players in the penalty area its almost impossible to do....Defensive coaching will get the game done away with. Have you seen the vast empty stands in games at the lower levels these days?? Not exactly a fans sport anymore!

I also have never seen 'endless discussions' on here about the modern game vs the old days. I wish there were but most fans were not born in those days and so would not be interested.

Mike why don't you go away, you are ruining this site with your inane comments. Twice you have said you wont be back so make it the third time where you keep your promise
The only endless discussions are by you .Read your last paragraph

It's strange that you think my post was aimed at you.

Hear hear! Strange Mike has only re-appeared when we dropped out of the play off places. I don't see his posts any more as I got so bored I blocked him, but sadly I still do when someone responds to him .....
