Trump has been a long term supporter of Tarrifs. I read an article on it yesterday and quoted him back in the 80s on the matter.

Tariffs are a very big mistake and somebody really needs to point out to Trump that other countries don't pay tariffs, they are paid by Americans buying imported stuff.

Sure the point is to stop Americans buying imports. But it won't work because it would take years for companies to build new factories in America. Meanwhile the economy will plunge into a massive recession.
