We simply do not do it when it *really* matters and that is why we will not get promoted.
That is the sad reality.
Realistically, we're now relying on Walsall's winless run continuing to still be in with a decent shout of the top 3.
Port Vale look a pretty safe bet for auto now. Bradford still have some tough away games but play us at their place and it would be a big ask for us to go there and come back with the result we need.
Walsall away to Barrow next, then home to Harrogate, then away to Newport, then home to Accrington before finishing the season at Crewe.
Not the best days with us losing as well. There was always going to be twists and turns in the run in and after things going in our favour earlier in the week its been the opposite today.
Its a blow to our chase for automatic promotion but in terms of our position in the playoffs we still have a six point cushion.
We can still get to 83 points but it would require something very special to happen. We could win four out of five and finish on 80 points which should just about be enough to scrape third place. Walsall are the team to displace. I think we would need to win the games against Bradford and Doncaster now to stand any chance of automatics. What we dont want to do is slip up and lose to any of Cheltenham, Salford or Harrogate otherwise it puts more pressure on to win those two key games.
Our points per game (PPG) puts us on course for 76 points. We have obtained seven points in the last five games so matching current form puts us finishing on 75 points. Playoffs would be secured on either basis.
