If you look at the form of the those teams in the automatics and play off places only Port Vale have been
consistent in the last 6 matches.
    Port Vale 15 points
    Notts County. 10
    Doncaster. 9
    Grimsby. 9
    Wimbledon. 8
    Bradford. 7
    Walsall. 4

    Chesterfield have 11
    Colchester. 10
    Crewe have 6
So let's face it anything could happen.

That?s pretty much how I see it, I could see us getting autos or even dropping out the play offs, just got to see what happens now.

There is a way of thinking that if you always expect the worse, then anything that happens must be better.

Walsall are failing and if Notts can hit a bit of a run, like Port Vale, then there is a chance. We're in a better position, than we've been for years. Notts just need to ignore other clubs' form and go for it.

    a welcome dose of perspective.

Promotion is still in our hands - especially because we still have Bdfd and Donny to play.

Not sure why football/Notts attracts so many dark-aged soothsayers who'd rather trust their carthorse/Basford/limpwristed/BT engineer gut over the plain indisputable facts: in this case that SM's brought us right to the brink of promotion in spite of a huge injury problem.

We've had two dramatic turnarounds in performance already this season, there's a high chance we'll come back from the Colchester loss.

Unfortunately it's Salford Debacle up next. Ho hum. Guess we all have to slay our dragons before moving on to the princess.

The thing is we never seem to go for it. Even when we are losing with minutes to go, we still play as though there is 90 minutes still to play. We dont have anyone in the team prepared to bust a gut to get us back into it.. They always say a dog owner looks like his dog. In our case the team reflect Maynard...

We have scored 13 goals in the last 15 mins of games - which is in the top part of the league, so to suggest we whimper in the last part of games is a lie really and probably just based off the pretty limp effort last weekend.

Its fair to say that SM has made us more calm / balanced / 'safe' than the basket case on the pitch gung ho team we were last season but that has been to our benefit in the most part. Theres only really Salford and Wimbledon away where weve been comfortably beaten.

The frustration for most fans is that weve been edged out by the odd goal in some of the high profile games against top 7 teams, (Port Vale Twice, Walsall twice). But we are still sat in a great position, just need to focus on being on the right side of those games against Bradford and Doncaster (of whom weve already got 4 points against) and see where we end up.

Were you at FGR last season, the game was into the last minute of added time, we were losing 1-0. We had a corner, and instead of trying to get a last second equaliser we passed it back. The ref blew the whistle. And that is the attitude that we still have, unless you are watching a different game to me...

I wasn?t at the FGR game nor saw it but we rarely go short on corners anymore. The contrast form last season?s corners to this is stark. No way anybody hasn?t seen that change. This season when losing in the end and we get a corner we put it in the box. So no longer a valid complaint.

I agree that we don?t try something completely different and launch it into the box and send a Marty Platt up there in the closing stages when losing. Wouldn?t be opposed to it but the coaches trust the process that has had success over 90 min games. Frustrating to some sure but understandable.

You would hope the team reflects the manager or head coach, would be strange it it didn?t. How well they combined are performing is conveniently reflected in the league table

My argument being, is that we never seem to exert ourselves in the closing stages when we are losing..

your argument seems to be that because we passed back from ONE corner in the last minute of ONE meaningless last game of the season a full year ago, that Notts "NEVER seem to exert ourselves in the closing stages." Is that right?

eta: I do remember the moment. It was not our finest, but to think one meaningless corner defines SM's Notts is a bit silly even for you, no?
