Williams and Maynard both advocate a possession game, but Williams had his teams playing at a higher tempo, at least when we were attacking, and playing far more forward passes with attacking players given more individual freedom. If you were to summarise the difference in a sentence, I think Williams was basically just a better and more demanding coach than Maynard is.
We saw the step up from Ardleyball when Williams arrived, and there's been a step back since Maynard arrived.
The biggest problem Williams faced just before he left was that he didn't have strong enough defensive personnel to cope with the upgrade to League Two and the heavy workload such players have to handle in such an attacking system, but with the arrival of Platt and Bedeau in particular, Maynard has had more defensive quality to work with.
