I have a bit of sympathy for Mr Maynard.
In my view, he is not up to the job or capable of getting us promoted, but he has been dealt a pretty rough hand and I think the brothers need to face their share of criticism for the situation (for the first time since they have owned the club). Frankly, I feel sorry for him.
He has, by hook or by crook, had his coaching team dismantled and not replaced; had several key players sold out from under him and not replaced adequately and is now effectively dealing with a squad of young men, who I believe do not respect him and are no longer playing for him, almost entirely alone.
Ultimately, he is the manager and takes responsibility for the results, but the players (and, to some extent, the ownership) have let him down over the past few weeks/months and have to take their share of the blame too.
Do we need better than SM? In my opinion yes, but if he does leave, he can depart with his head held relatively high.
Colchester had most of their top players out, but still managed to beat us. Against Salford we had a strong team out, but still got outplayed. Its not as if we dont have qualified coaches at the club,. The academy coaches are probably more qualified than the two have left.. You can make has many excuses as you like, but I'm sure every club in division has had the same problems.
I can?t add anything positive to this thread really. That apathetic excuse of a performance last night are the kind that go a long way towards getting yourself the sack. Let?s be real, not one player on the team can come away feeling like they?ve earned their wages this week but if Maynard can?t get a team up for a match that would go a huge way to getting promotion this year, whilst playing a team that has nothing to play for, then it isn?t looking g good for him.
From minute one it was quite frankly pathetic. I can understand misplacing passes, it happens, but the amount of errors we made from minute one just set us off on the wrong foot and gave Salford the initiative straight away. But what infuriates me the most is the complete lack of desire, fight, cohesion and leadership that are on display in every big game we have played this season
Out fought on the pitch and out thought off it. A complete shambles. It looked like we were the team already on our holidays, not Salford. As a group of players I don?t believe they are a bad bunch, attitude wise, but these insipid displays have become far too regular for my liking and point directly at one person. Sometimes someone just isn?t the right person.
This must go down in history as one of the most frustratingly boring and agonisingly tedious promotion campaigns in football history. Every time we start to get a little excited or optimistic we pull something ugly like last night out of the hat.
I?ve already bought my Bradford ticket and hotel, but another display like last night and I fear it could be 4 or 5 being slammed in.
Part agree part disagree, agree that he is not a manager he is a coach, don't think we can say he is a bad coach though. I think the problem is that he is too nice and does not have the killer instinct needed to get a team over the line
To give an F1 analogy going back to earlier Red Bull times he has the Mark Webber "nice guy" compared to the Sebastian Vettel "win at all costs" personality. Similar comparisons can be made between LW and SM (also I, the latter has the knowledge but not that edginess that gets you over the line, LW had that extra edge.
