It all comes down to the management of the club on how to best communicate this to their star-players & to take the side of the manager/coach when it comes to any confrontation. There have been many examples in the past about the Chelsea players not being happy with their coach, not just Mourinho to be fair.

The problem is have with Mourinho is he has never ever been a manager who has tried to blood local youth talent from the U21 ranks. Never. He always tries to build his teams by purchasing players.
In essence Cherry, the decision to prioritise buying players over promoting youth players is a complex one, influenced by the clubs financial situation, its ambition & its approach to building a 'successful' team.

In top end competitions like PL football then buying established players can be favoured over promoting youth players due to immediate impact, financial regulations & in the pursuit of winning.

Yes, youth players may offer long-term potential & cost effectiveness but buying proven talent provides a quicker path to 'success' & helps clubs manage their finances in the face of financial regulations like
Profit Sustainability Rules & UEFAs rebranded regulations of Financial Sustainability. This change now reflects a shift towards focusing on long-term sustainability & financial prudence in football clubs.

The rationale behind these changes is to promote financial stability & a level playing field in football, preventing clubs from accumulating unsustainable debts or engaging in excessive spending.
My issue is that promoting youth players in the PL faces several real challenges, including financial incentives that may overshadow development, the lack of opportunities for youth players in first-team lineups.

Plus the psychological impact of rejection from academies which I have seen at first hand, sadly. Also many of the kids between 16/18 years old receive lucrative contracts before even making a significant impact at first-team level as contracts can be seen as a barrier to development, potentially leading to a decline in work ethic & motivation particularly if players equate wealth with success.

Issues that football does not like to talk about as rejection from an academy can have a significant emotional & psychological impact on young players, leading to a loss of self-worth & confidence, even worse if players progress to to next stage as most clubs then prioritise short term results over the long term development of youth players.

Leeds is not the only club who maybe lack a clear path to the first team as many other clubs nowadays lack a clear & consistent plan for transitioning youth players into the first team too, making it difficult for them to progress as is often discussed on here.

Owners employ Coaches to get results & financing today dictates strategy of doing so.
Looking at comments on here regarding young Matteo Josephs development is an example of promotion of youth talent progression & implementation of it, for sure.

Time wise, everyone wants an instant result do they not, nowadays, in everything.

Looking deeper into the current Spurs scenario, Oz.

    Levy said in April 2025:
Since opening our new stadium in April 2019 we have invested over ?700million net in player acquisitions.
Recruitment remains a key focus and we must ensure that we make smart purchases within our financial means.

    Levy, though, insisted:
Our capacity to generate recurring revenues determines our spending power.
We cannot spend what we do not have and we will not compromise the financial stability of this club.

    Levy warned:
Our spending in the transfer market must be smart and sustainable after Spurs on March 31 had announced a fall in revenue on top of mounting challenges on the pitch.

Spurs revenue fell 4% for the year ending June 2024 from 549.6 million in the previous year to 528.2 million, while the club reduced losses after tax, with a deficit of 26.2 million from 86.8 million in 2023.

Chairman Levy, who has been criticised by fans for not spending enough on the squad, defended his investment in players reiterating Spurs need to be 'financially-sustainable'.

Spurs have been forced to put transfer plans for this summer on hold amid the double uncertainty over head coach Ange Postecoglou and whether the club will be competing in Europe next season.

Postecoglous team cannot qualify for Europe through the PL but could still snatch an unlikely Champions League place by winning the Europa cup.

So, what does the aggressive new approach to youth recruitment tell us about Spurs woes ?
Archie Gray joined the likes of Micky van de Ven & Brennan Johnson into a Spurs squad already bursting with youth since the prior season transfer window when Postecoglou was appointed as head coach with the average age of his new signings at Spurs being younger than 22 !

This season, alongside Gray, they have also added promising Swedish midfielder Lucas Bergvall, who is 18 & winger Wilson Odobert,19, who had joined from Burnley.

Mmmm, squad spending risks after fancy stadia upgrades, eh. 🙄

Who gives a phuck,by Monday night you will be back in the Premier league next season taking on the likes of Liverpool ,arsenal and the Muncs, not forgetting the bent refs dodgy decisions and VAR.. what more is there to look forward to. Does it matter if you go straight back down.I for one couldn't give a toss if Burnley do..It's going to be a fun ride all the way with massive losses and the odd shock victory or so. Roll on EPL.... you have nothing to lose and plenty to gain.. 😁

All based on the ideology of MT which I tend to agree with. The club can?t wait for ifs and maybe?s. Success means the 49ers have to invest heavily to reap the rewards. Failure and a revert to the Championship could mean a financial mess and our club in trouble. I say do a Notts Forest and take a risk. I would like to witness European football before long.

As MT would say??.. just sayin

To some extent until you see them play there it?s hard to say.

The biggest quality we lack in a lot of positions is pace which finds you out in the PL.

I?d maybe put Gruev, Smidt, Gnotto and Solomon on the fence between yes and no, leaning towards yes
