Have we forgotten we were a Championship club last season and St Mirren have been a top 6 Premiership side now 3 years in a row, played in Europe only losing 1 of their 4 European games this season. They were also going through a very good spell in the split coming in to game having beaten Aberdeen and drawn with Rangers. We have no divine right to beat them. I get we are all frustrated the way the season is ending but we are really losing perspective.

Last time in Europe we were unlucky to draw a team as high calibre as AZ at that stage of the competition, a team who narrowly missed reaching the final. I hope we qualify for Europe and strengthen our squad over the summer. If we cant celebrate qualifying for Europe (which is still a good possibility) given where we have come from WTF is the point.

Massive opportunity if we could pull out a couple of performances.

Beat the sheep and 4th place which is much better than 5th - it?s Europa League

I haven't forgotten where we were but then neither have i forgot the last Tannadice Derby when the Funsters could and should have ran up a cricket score against us and they still continue in their battle to avoid the drop.If shyte like that can murder you it will not take a team from the Netherlands to further tarnish the good name we once held in europe.I would be worried if Saturdays team came up against a Baltic mid division side.

It's a very good post and it's worth everyone bearing this in mind.

Our good name in Europe is absolutely consigned to the past. It's no longer possible for a club like ours ever to get back to that

I know it?s tough and unlikely but some of the scandi teams have shown the way Bodo Glimt and Djugardens in semis in Europe. I don?t think they have mega money - obviously well managed to do what they have done.

For a club our size it?s not unrealistic to hope to get group stage football every once in a while

As others have said it will be tougher next season we need to take this opportunity over next couple of games

Yeah but I'm taking about us getting to the final of the UEFA cup for instance, not the occasional few games.

I would rather watch us getting beat in Europe than watching us getting beat by Nairn County in the group stage of our own cup. Both competitions come too early and are pretty much our preseason. We just have to hope that somehow we manage to beat what we are drawn against, but previous experience shows that we find that difficult. At least Europe gives the fans a wee change and a holiday!

That AZ first leg at Tannadice was one of my best memories as United fan in the last few years. 2nd leg we found out we had a bombscare of a keeper. But nothing will take away the memories of the first leg. Madness that there are United fans who don't want us in Europe, even against much lesser opposition than AZ because we have run out of a puff a bit towards the end of this season. Over the summer we will be recruiting as a top 6 Premiership club not a newly promoted one that none of us predicted would finish in the top 6. We are in a better place.
