To be fair, the brothers do deserve credit for the off the field progress, but part of that progress needs to be capitalised on. Sacking Stew and replacing him with another ?young? coach is risky.
This season has proven that possession is pointless. And I don?t mean just for us. All the teams up, or with a chance in the final, can play with low possession, but still do better than our walking football approach.

We?re safe and sound off the field. Now we need to be a bit more experienced on the field by appointing a sensible manager, with experience and a better understanding of having a plan B

The fundamental thing with off the field progress is that it's futile if on the field isn't working. Who wants the best stadium speakers? Great if we're doing the business on the pitch, but who cares if not? I appreciate it's not one or the other, but anything off the field becomes entirely insignificant if we're a poor team.

Now the fact is, we've been poor for weeks and essentially limped into the playoffs. For about 6 weeks I've felt our performances seem more like a team seeing out a season with nothing to play for, rather than one tha could have gained automatic promotion. SM was clearly satisfied with a playoff spot which boggles the mind when you consider his cautious approach.

I guess I'd say that the off field progress will come into its own once we have a manager with the nous, courage, and imagination to take us further. No off field progress restricts our options whatever the on field is like.

    shots 8-14
    on target 4-1
    possession 26%-74%
    score 1-0

Better strikers and we'd have won that. So again... with the injuries... this season...

    Another telling stat:

    Big chances created 1-0

74% possession and we created absolutely nothing. The first leg against Wimbledon was very much the exception in recent times with 3 big chances created - but all missed, and that’s where this playoff was lost.

Once we had lost McGoldrick and, to a lesser extent given current form, Jatta yesterday’s result, and performance, seemed entirely predictable and I was mad to even hope otherwise. Let us face it over the last quarter of the season we have been well below par. Nice football but no end product. Consequently, I have replaced the word nice with excruciating and, ultimately, I feel we did not give it a proper “go” yesterday. However, how could the side do that when they have not given it a “go” for a long time.

To me it is almost pointless speculating about the future of SM as it is, and rightly so, the owners who will make that call. However, if they properly support him over the Summer and we continue with this excruciating and ineffective football then, surely, they will be looking for the services of a new manager before too long.

Educate me. When the ball is kicked, a Wimbledon player is 1M offside. He knows he's offside and stands still.

Then the goalscorer Neufville on the far side runs past a Notts player, from an onside position and scores.

The Wimbledon player who I believe was offside, is IMO interfering with play.

I have a JPG picture showing this, but unfortunately can't seem to link to the post. (i'm being asked for URL??)

I'm not looking for a big argument, I'll be just happy to know if the goal was or wasn't offside.

Edit: It's 1 min 47 secs on the 10 min 48 sec Highlight on Piesplayer.

I have no interest in arguing this either way but here's the rule regarding interfering with play

    https://www.thefa.com/football-rules...w-11---offside

    2. Offside offence

A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is played or touched* by a team-mate is only penalised on becoming involved in active play by:

interfering with play by playing or touching a ball passed or touched by a team-mate
    or
    interfering with an opponent by:
preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball by clearly obstructing the opponent?s line of vision or
challenging an opponent for the ball
    or
clearly attempting to play a ball which is close when this action impacts on an opponent
    or
making an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball

*The first point of contact of the 'play' or 'touch' of the ball should be used

It doesn't matter either way, we still would have lost the game 1-0. We created nothing of note and deserved to lose the game. Wimbledon were the better side and wanted it more than us.. If Maynard thought we gave it our best, then he was watching a different game to me.

It occurred to me on my dog walk this morning that we’ve scored 1 goal in 4 games against Wimbledon, from a corner. If that isn’t an indictment of Maynard’s failure to successfully implement the way the owners want to play I don’t know what is.
