That's just Farage Fear Factory talk. The position that you describe bears no resemblance to reality (as demonstrated by your apparent fear that landlocked countries such as Luxembourg, Austria and Hungary will be sending trawlers).

The agreement today is to continue with the arrangements agreed by Boris in the exit agreement that he entered into. European boats will still have to apply for licence and will still be subject to quotas

The same as it has done since Boris agreed the arrangement, save that they will now have easier access to the EU markets that they rely upon (British waters are good for fish species, squid and shellfish that don't sell well in the UK) and will now have certainty about the market conditions for the next 12 years as opposed being subject to the reviews that were in the Boris agreement.

Lies, lies, lies. This is an industry which has been squeezed and squeezed. They have had to resort to shellfish because because the huge juggernaught French and Spanish trawlers mop up all the white fish. They were hoping that the regulations would be in their favour but Starmer and the Remoaning champagne socialists have bowed down to the EU yet again. They did not have a mandate to this and once again us Brits are getting screwed. How much worse can it get?????????????

And there’s a point to taxation. I think most motorists are fed up with the state of the roads and anyone who has tried to get a GP appointment recently will be wondering (if they have any curiosity) whether GPS services are going the same way as NHS dentistry. I think the general mood on here indicates that many people quite rightly want something done about the huge backlog in the processing of asylum claims. And all those things cost money.

We can blame politicians all that we like and they have to take their share of the blame, but it’s the public who repeatedly vote for political parties who tell the lie that we can have first class public services and tax cuts.

NB. it’s customary at this point for people give their opinion about the way governments waste money. I’ve got an opinion or two on that, but I doubt whether anyone has ideas that would make any measurable difference.
What chances of electoral success would you give a party who promised first class services and higher taxes ?

Where do you get this nonsense from Bill?

There were plenty of lies told about Brexit. Do you remember the poster on the side of the bus and the likes of Gove, Johnson and Patterson suggesting that we would continue to have unfettered access to EU markets? Exports to the EU are down 21% since Brexit, with drink and food (including fish) accounting for a lot of that:

    https://www.theguardian.com/business...4-since-brexit

There has never been very much cod in British waters not least because the British Isles are right at the southern edge of the range for that species. That's why the 'cod wars' were fought in Icelandic waters in the 70s and why Brexit caused such disruption to the UK fishing fleet which found itself suddenly excluded from the Norwegian waters that it had access to under the agreement between the EU and Norway.

Haddock too is a deep water fish at the limits of its range around the British Isles (a range that is slowly creeping northwards due to climate change).

The largest catch by far in UK waters is mackerel (with herring in second place). Neither of those species are consumed in large quantities in the UK which is why European export markets are so important, as they are for shellfish.

Farage would know all about fishing as he was a member of the EU Parliamentary Fisheries Committee when he was an MEP. Then again, maybe he wouldn't as he was so concerned about British fishing that he only turned up for 1 of the 42 meetings held during his tenure.

What is it about Brexit that has leavers scratching around for supposed benefits and so keen to cling on to the broken dream that they were sold? is it just embarrassment at having been so badly fooled?

In recent years it’s been the Lib Dems who have had the honesty problem (in the sense of being honest with the electorate). They have refused to pretend that Brexit has been anything other than the equivalent of an economic bin fire and an act of self-harm by the UK and have pointed out the need to raise taxes if we want a functioning NHS. It’s a strategy that hasn’t worked out too well for them.

A few years ago, the taxpayers of Bedfordshire were asked if they would like to pay a few quid extra for additional policing and said no. It’s possible, I suppose that they were all very happy with the policing of the county, but I suspect that they were not but thought someone else should pay:

Whether it’s ‘low tax – quality services’ or ‘Brexit is the answer to everything’ it’s clear that the only thing that the British electorate can be relied upon for is their willingness to accept obvious lies

The current lie is that ‘curbing immigration is the answer to everything' (sold to you by the same people who sold you the huge success that is Brexit).

I thought about joining in this thread but I can?t be arsed to give an opinion and write an assay explains why I think what I think.

But I do believe that Britain has been sold down the river again.

Keir Starmer has ****ed over the farmers, ****ed over the majority that democratically voted for brexit, ****ed over the rape scandal victims, ****ed over the pensioners, ****ed over the immigration promises, ****ed over everyone that voted for labour and the dream of change.

All in his first year in year as PM!
