There were plenty of lies told about Brexit. Do you remember the poster on the side of the bus and the likes of Gove, Johnson and Patterson suggesting that we would continue to have unfettered access to EU markets? Exports to the EU are down 21% since Brexit, with drink and food (including fish) accounting for a lot of that:

    https://www.theguardian.com/business...4-since-brexit

There has never been very much cod in British waters not least because the British Isles are right at the southern edge of the range for that species. That's why the 'cod wars' were fought in Icelandic waters in the 70s and why Brexit caused such disruption to the UK fishing fleet which found itself suddenly excluded from the Norwegian waters that it had access to under the agreement between the EU and Norway.

Haddock too is a deep water fish at the limits of its range around the British Isles (a range that is slowly creeping northwards due to climate change).

The largest catch by far in UK waters is mackerel (with herring in second place). Neither of those species are consumed in large quantities in the UK which is why European export markets are so important, as they are for shellfish.

Farage would know all about fishing as he was a member of the EU Parliamentary Fisheries Committee when he was an MEP. Then again, maybe he wouldn't as he was so concerned about British fishing that he only turned up for 1 of the 42 meetings held during his tenure.

What is it about Brexit that has leavers scratching around for supposed benefits and so keen to cling on to the broken dream that they were sold? is it just embarrassment at having been so badly fooled?
Your mind is polluted with the extreme opinions of the Guardian and BBC,hardly the most trustworthy journalists.I'm afraid under this leadership the country is getting worse by the week.

I'm just reading through some summaries of the deal and trying to make my mind up on it. Interesting response to some factual info presented by Kerr there and be interested in your responce - which of these 'facts' (if there are facts) are you disputing and on what grounds?

Sorry, missed this until I saw Kerr's reply to it. Which summed it up quite well. But I just wanted to ask - as you have previously argued that the 'super rich' should be the ones paying more, not the regular tax earners in current low/high bands (I think I remember you making that case, sorry if incorrect in any way) - what would be your reply to them if they sent you the same link?

Well, the thing about figures around trade with the EU don?t tend to get reported in the likes of the Mail and Express. They've worked out that data that shows that the Brexit that they sold so long and hard was actually a crock of sh1t wouldn't go down with their readers who still like to play games of hunt the Brexit benefit. Either that or it could be shame. But, then again, probably not.

Do you blush when you describe the BBC and Guardian as 'extreme'?

If you have alternative trade data to that reported by the Guardian then let us have it.

What do the Marxists at the Institute of Directors have to say:
    https://www.iod.com/news/eu-and-trad...collaboration/

The reset of relations between the UK and EU has been a long time coming. Our own research shows that an improved trade deal with the EU is seen as one of the top three factors that would help boost UK growth.

The ultra socialists at the British Retail Consortium:
    https://brc.org.uk/news-and-events/n...ade-agreement/

The removal of veterinary checks is good news for retailers and consumers alike. It will help keep costs down and create greater security in retail supply chains, ensuring the ongoing availability of key food imports for British shoppers.

The Trotskyist Port of Dover Authority:
    https://www.portofdover.com/news/the...eal-statement/

    19/05/2025
The Port of Dover welcomes the UK-EU deal announced today, which represents a significant and positive step forward in resetting and strengthening our ***** cross-Channel economic relationship?

We particularly welcome commitments to simplifying trading and travel arrangements and removing barriers such as Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) checks on animal and plant products which we hope to see implemented as quickly as possible.

    The Maoists at Salmon Scotland:
    https://www.salmonscotland.co.uk/new...rexit-red-tape

Salmon Scotland, which represents the UK's biggest food export, said today's UK/EU trade deal would reduce costly delays and red tape that have cost salmon export companies an estimated ?3 million a year since Brexit.

The anarchists at NFU Wales are a bit less enthusiastic but still broadly in favour:

    https://www.nfu-cymru.org.uk/news-an...o-uk-eu-reset/

NFU Cymru has today given a cautious welcome to the outcome of the UK-EU summit which should help reduce trade friction between the UK and its largest trading partner when it comes to the export of agri-food products.

    Etc. etc.

Salmon Scotland farm salmon.NOT proper fishermen.Meanwhile French and Spanish fishermen celebrate their success while our British lads are totally shafted by our heartless govt. This lot care more about globalist corporates like Blackrock, than they do about the taxpaying working class. Why are they wanting to get closer to a failing EU and bowing down, giving them everything they ask for. This stinks of political treason against the 17.4 million who voted to come out of this Bureaucratic EU prison."STOP THE BOATS"?, the only ones he's stopping are our fishing boats.

    That?s just more nonsense, Bill.

The arrangements for fishing agreed on Monday are a continuation of the agreement reached by Boris Johnson when he was 'getting Brexit done', save that European markets will be more readily open to fish that is caught in British waters that we don?t eat in this country. In other words, the agreement represents an improvement on the position that existed before it was reached.

Here are some more extreme views for you:

    The Confederation of British Industry:
    https://www.cbi.org.uk/media-centre/...-uk-eu-summit/

After the turbulence of the last decade, today's Summit marks a leap forward in the EU-UK relationship. The government has been relentless in its commitment to free and fair trade on the international stage, providing businesses with a shot of confidence through recent deals with the US and India.

    The Food and Drink Federation:
    https://www.fdf.org.uk/fdf/news-medi...e-arrangement/

We?re pleased to see today?s announcement of a much closer UK-EU trading relationship, which acknowledges our shared high standards in food and drink. A high-quality agreement will have clear benefits for consumers and businesses. However, the government must continue to work closely with industry on the detail and ensure the UK is able to influence EU decision making where this impacts British businesses and competitiveness, particularly where the UK aligns with EU rules.

    The British Meat Processors Association
    https://britishmeatindustry.org/what...meat-industry/

The newly agreed UK?EU trade arrangement marks a significant breakthrough for the British meat processing industry. After years of post-Brexit friction, the establishment of a streamlined Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) agreement promises to reignite UK meat exports to Europe and restore the frictionless trade that businesses have long been calling for.

I appreciate that Michael Gove told us that said that we should ignore experts who warned about the downside of Brexit, but we can now see the actual impact of it, so there?s really no excuse for pretending that is was anything other than a crock of sh!t sold to you by people who were happy to exploit you for political gain.

P.s. Farage is so concerned about British fishing that he was on holiday in France yesterday instead of being in the Commons to respond to Starmer?s statement on the agreement and doing the job that the taxpayer pays him to do.

How is pointing out Farage's disinterest in his job baiting?

Apparently the UK are heading towards having Farage appointed as PM. I think important to touch upon reality as opposed to staged photo opportunities of him having a pint and a fag.
