I agree with most of that and he has been hung out to dry a touch too as I have explained a few times this set up isn?t all about manager/head coach.
In saying that I think it?s probably the best outcome for the club and him, if we started badly like we did under Nolan it would have got toxic and it would be a horrible atmosphere with potentially fans arguing amongst each other.
I also think it helps Maynard with a good season on paper which plays in his favour for a new job look back 12 months quite a few on here wanted Williamson I bet you hear nobody say that now has he got worse after MK Dons or Carlisle probably not but his record puts fans off.
The owners will have someone lined up and you?d think appointed within the next week or so.
What actually went wrong for Maynard?
We got ourselves into the top 3, but then over the final dozen games or so, with players coming back from injury, we proceeded to throw away a pole position over a run-in that wasn't so hard really.
Yes, our squad was flawed and unbalanced but the competition was no great shakes either - the importance of the games should have dragged out better performances from the likes of Macari, Palmer, Grant, Jatta, Traore etc etc.
What was it? Fear and nerves? Overcomplicating things with tactics and team changes? Poor team spirit? Just plain old poor leadership? Bad training and preparation? Poor instructions to the players?
I suppose it doesn't matter, we have a chance at a new start now. But we should've done significantly better than we did and it's a curiosity as to exactly why we/he/they blew it so badly
I think his first season here blinkered him. I think LW knew the squad early on wasn't up to the challenge of defending in league 2 so went for the "you score 4, we'll score 5" mentality. Maynard came in and thought he could plug the leaks and keep the goals coming but the reality was, you couldn't do that.
Going into this season, he's thinking "can't be too aggressive, we might concede" rather than thinking that we have a keeper and defenders worthy of the name this year so unleash our attack. Basically, he was playing not to lose which invariably means you will lose
